I'm about as low maintenance a female as you can get. I have never spent more than $40 on a hair dryer. The result? I almost never use a hair dryer. I hate them. My arms always get tired, I never seem to get the style I want, I always need a third arm anyway... frizz everywhere, even though my hair is pretty straight and simple. Just better to air dry or put it up in a pony tail when it's even long enough for it. But I'm not telecommuting anymore, and I have to look "nice" for work again. Ugh. So the arrival of my Dyson hair dryer to try was an opportunity to see if there was a better way. When you think of the price of this hair dryer... I can't help but think... what life changing miracle does this device hold for that kind of moolah? I mean, how many other great things could you buy for that kind of money? This must be the most amazing hair dryer in the world! Let me stop you right there. There's no life changing miracle. It's a hair dryer. It blows hot air and, if you want it to, cold air. It dries your hair. It has some attachments and a power cord. It's a hair dryer. You still have to hold it, your arm will still get tired, it still makes noise. If you've ever had a hair dryer, you pretty much know what you're getting here. I will say, that this Dyson hair dryer does all of those things FAR BETTER than any other hair dryer I've ever used or had a professional hair dresser use on me. Yes, it dries my hair--but it does it in half the time and with almost no frizz compared to a traditional "gun" style dryer with regular heating elements. I have a straight, chin-length bob, thick hair. Going for straight-up speed, on the medium intensity setting, high heat, my hair went from dripping out of the shower to bone dry in five minutes flat. I managed to style it the next day in 10-15, and as I get the hang of it, my time is getting better. My hair is drying the smoothest it's ever been, and what's kind of more amazing is that my simple under-curled bob is holding its style for a second day if I don't take a shower the next morning. I just brush it out and I'm good to go. The dryer is still heavy--not really any lighter than a regular dryer. But the center of gravity is better, with the motor in the handle, rather than at the top of the handle, so it feels much better. It's also still loud, but not nearly as loud as a traditional dryer, especially on the lower settings. I also love that there is no heating element--no burnt hair smell ever! ...Though I did notice that if you use an attachment, don't touch it during or right after using the dryer--it will be very hot! I love that it came with all of the attachments you could want. They attach magnetically, which is a great touch... it makes it easy to rotate the smoothing nozzle, for example, to get a better angle on your round brush if you can't quite get your arm positioning right! The controls are also simple and sleek. The design of this dryer really is beautiful, and it's built to last. I have a tiny counter, so I have managed to have it slide into the sink, and even onto the floor once or twice, no worse for wear. It has never slipped out of my hand--it's got a nice kind of almost rubberized surface to it which prevents slippage, but does kind of pick up grit if your counter is a bit dirty. So the Dyson hair dryer really is an amazing gadget. I'm using it often (compared to pretty much never using a hair dryer at all), so in that regard, I guess I have to think of it as an investment. If you're buying this thing, it's because you're serious about your hair care, and expect to get a lot of quality use out of it for a long time. But I really can't get over the price. If it was even $100 cheaper, I could consider it a better "value for the price" and give it a full five stars (and I fully admit that this a personal judgement call). If you have the money to spend, or hair care is a priority for you, this is probably a great purchase.

I was skeptical about this hair dryer...I wondered what in the world can make it so great that it held such an exorbitant price tag. Then I tried it. Despite what some people may think, every hair dryer is not equal. This one ranks up there with the elite of hair dryers. It dries quickly without damaging the hair or making your strands feel dehydrated. I don't have a relaxer or any other chemical treatments so I rely on a good blowout and flat ironing session to offer me straight hair. The better the blowout the less heat I have to apply with a flat iron and the more likely I am able to go until my next wash before needing to use any additional heat. I had been happy with my previous hair dryer because it gave me good to slightly better results but after trying this one I realize that I wasn't getting as great of an experience as I thought. My dry time was cut down to half of what it normally takes and I was able to flat iron more quickly with only one pass per section (something I have never been able to do). My hair was softer than usual and not nearly as dry as it normally is after I do a blowout and flat ironing (dry as in my hair wasn't in desperate need of moisture restored). This dryer is a little lighter than any other dryer I've used and it's design definitely eliminated the arm fatigue I often experience. The attachments are easy to snap on and adjust thanks to the magnetic connection used. The ability to adjust the heat level and the airflow is great. I was surprised how powerful the airflow was on this dryer and was more surprised that I was able to use it on the lowest heat setting with medium airflow and still receive great results. The 9 ft cord is also appreciated. The 3 attachments included are great for almost any use needed although I would love for Dyson to offer a comb attachment in the future. It's not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have the option available. Overall I love how this dryer works. The only negative (and it's a big one) is the price point. It's an excellent hair dryer and well worth a premium price point...but I do think the pricing is above what most can and would want to pay for it. Ultimately it's something I would recommend to everyone that can get their hands on it and can afford the price. With it's 2 year warranty and the exceptional way that it performs it may very well be worth the investment. Especially if you usually go for cheap dryers but find yourself replacing them often. It's too soon to say how long this dryer can hold up but the reputation of Dyson along with the great warranty gives me hope that I won't be disappointed.

As someone who has a tighter men's cut, I do not often turn to my hairdryer. As such, I have grown accustomed to a "typical" hairdryer experience. Uncomfortable, too hot, loud...in short, not really a pleasant time. This Dyson hairdryer took the experience I was used to and turned it on its head. It makes me want to dry my hair. To start, as with other Dyson products, the packaging is superb. Yes, it is only packaging, but even with something as straightforward as this, you can see the time, effort and thought put into every aspect of the product. This attention to detail carries through as one moves on to the product itself. Included in the packaging are the dryer itself, three attachments (1 diffuser, 1 smoothing nozzle, 1 styling concentrator), one non-slip mat to place the dryer on and one storage hanger. The Dyson really stands out when it comes to design and performance. The construction and design make the drying process shorter, easier and less-tiring. The soft-matte finish feels nice in the hand, the plug has sufficient length (9 feet), and with the motor (and its weight) in the handle of the dryer, there is a great balance that I have not seen in other units. It certainly feels "different" at first, but it will reduce some arm fatigue from having your arm up all around your head as you are drying. After a few uses, it feels like second nature. As for the air itself, it has the power to get the job done (with 3 separate settings) as well as fantastic temperature control (also with 3 separate settings, as well as a "cool shot" button for a shot of very cool air). In the past, hair dryers I have used have always just gotten hotter and hotter as use continued. With the Dyson, however, the temperature is monitored 20 times per second and adjusted so the temperature stays constant, that is it remains at the level you select. It is something so simple (in concept at least), but it definitely makes a difference. No discussion of hairdryers can be complete without talking about how loud they are, and again, I feel the Dyson excels here as well. In my mind, there is no doubt it is quieter than any I have used, but the sound is also different than that of a "normal" unit. Just not as "forceful," if that makes any sense. It is silent? No, not by any means, but the different and quieter sound is noticeable and more pleasant to my ears. Lastly, and of more importance to some rather than others, are the attachments. They all attach to the hairdryer via magnets. This sounds strange, and again, like such a simple thing, but to able to just pop them on and off is great....and admittedly, way too much fun. So, what does all of this mean when it comes to actually drying your hair? Well, in my use, my hair dries faster, while feeling less "dried-out", has more of a shine to it, and in general, just looks and feels better. I am quite pleased with nearly every aspect of the Dyson. It does the job, does it well and looks good doing it. All of that said, I must take a moment to mention the price. All of the great features, technology, design and aspects of this product do come at a cost. This is a personal issue, but it in my experience, it has been worth it, and while I do not have the advantage at this point of seeing how it will hold up over time, I feel confident it will still be worth it down the road. I have no problem highly recommending this Dyson product. here are a few quick takeaways: PROS: - design / ease of use - comfort - light weight - power of air flow / speed variations - temperature control - time saved everday from quick drying - quiet operation - long cord - magnetic attachments - 2 year warranty CONS: - price (this is not really a con, but it is something to consider)

THIS IS A VERY NICE HAIR DRYER

The build quality of this Dyson Supersonic Hair dryer is impressive. I always like it when magnets are incorporated into devices, and so to have the ends magnetized onto the main body of the hair dryer, is a really nice design. I was surprised when I first turned on the Dyson Supersonic, the sound was not what I had expected, it sort of sounds like a high performance dentist drill, then once it is on and running, the sound of air is more noticeable and the zinging noise is less noticeable. This Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has a really cool sound to it. The main thing I use a hair dryer for, being a guy, is for the following list of things: To dry wood glue when building wood projects. To blow the inside of a computer free of dust. To spot warm myself when cold To dry my shoes & socks & feet of moisture. I always have a hair dryer plugged in next to my recliner, and when my feet get sweaty, or cold, then I reach form my hair dryer, and then my feet are nice and dry. This drastically reduces the growth of the athlete’s foot fungus. Keeping my feet dry and warm is what I use a hair dryer for more than anything, and the Dyson does not come with any round attachment, and the long oval attachments do not work as well for drying socks. If I was a person with long hair and used a hair dryer for the purpose of drying hair, then I would say that this would be one of the coolest hair dryers to use. My overall impression of this Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, is that it might be difficult to build a nicer hair dryer. I did check the option saying that I would suggest this item to a friend, this is based upon how well built and innovative it is, but at the current selling price of $399, I would be less likely to suggest it at that price. After all, this is only an electric device that has one main purpose, drying hair, and I don’t feel as if most people would want to spend $400 for a hair dryer. The original selling price of $400 for this Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, is the reason I am rating this as a 4 star product, instead of 5 stars. I figured I would add one fact about hair dryers, this is that hair spray is what damages a hair dryer more than anything. If ever spraying hair spray onto your hair, and then wanting to blow your hair one last time, then wait like 30 seconds after spraying the hair spray, before turning on a hair dryer. Otherwise the hair spray will get sucked into the hair dryer, and this will cause substantial clogging and eventually damage.

Ok, first off, got this for the wife due to the fact that I don't have enough hair to bother using a hair dryer on. Most of this review is from her point of view, though I'm guessing that she matches the primary demographic for this device anyway. I am truly amazed at the work Dyson does on appliances. Do the alternates that have been around forever work almost as good, sure but Dyson always seems to up that game in style, usability, and function. I haven't been let down by any of the multitude of products I have from them that are all still running just as well as the day I purchased them. That being said, I was a tad skeptical on how much you could really do to a hair dryer, I must say though that Dyson being Dyson has done it again and made a stellar product. For its primary duty as a hair dryer it is awesome and does the job just as well as my wife previous dryer. Doesn't seem to do it faster or slower and her hair doesn't look any different. What it does do better is give a heck of a lot better control over her hair drying and best of all for me, it does so in a much quieter fashion. Now on those rare days when I get to sleep in past her, I can actually sleep and not be woken up by a screaming hair dryer! If for no other reason, it was worth it for me. That and the fact that I'm sure that this dryer will last forever which is great because my wife has gone through three dryers in the last two years. Eventually this thing is going to pay for itself. My wife had only one quibble with the Supersonic and it has to do with one of Dyson's main selling points for this thing. The balance that she is used to when drying her hair is completely thrown off by having the guts moved to the handle instead of in the head of the device. Now I'm sure she is going to get used to it the same way she initially got used to using a hair dryer in the first place but for right now she says her arms are sore from working different muscles. So maybe this isn't a bad thing, perhaps Dyson should also list as one of the benefits of the Supersonic that it is also a workout device! Bottom line: Can you get something that does exactly what this does for a whole lot less money? Yes of course but that can be said of any Dyson product and hasn't stopped them from winning legions of fans (including me). To me, this was worth the price because I see my wife using this for the rest of her life. Considering I have spent over $100 in the last two years on other dryers I figure even if it only lasts a decade, I will have still saved money! Also, if you are a tech geek like me and are trying to pull your luddite wife into the 21st century, there probably isn't a better way to do it than the Dyson Supersonic!

I asked my god-daughter, who is a hair stylist, to give me a professional opinion on the Dyson Supersonic dryer. Her notes are included below. The Dyson looks different than other hair dryers, so it really stands out from the crowd. Overall, it does an excellent job as a hair dryer. I am not convinced it is worth $400, but it has a useful design with thoughtful touches (like magnetic attachments) and does an excellent job overall. If you can find it on sale, I highly recommend it. Pros: Light weight Fairly quiet Dries quickly Adjustable heat and air flow Back of the dryer doesn't have suction so it doesn't get the hair caught in it like a lot of dryers The only area that does have a little suction is the exchange(?) at the bottom of the handle but even if you lay that directly on the hair it won't get caught in it Magnetic attachments that are easily turned, adjusted, and switched Compact/easily stored Cons: Box on the cord is a little heavy which sometimes makes it a little difficult if you're reaching with the dryer Because it has such strong air flow you have to be careful around people's ears because that much powerful air flow might be uncomfortable or painful to some If you're one of those people who like to dry hair holding the "barrel" of the blow dryer you don't really have that option given the barrel area is very wide and short It may have no correlation but since I've been using the dryer I tend to shock them a little after using the dryer. Nothing while the dryer is in my hand but that kind of little zap you get if you didn't put a dryer sheet in the laundry Doesn't really fit in your typical salon hair dryer holders on account of it not really having a barrel but if you flip it around you can put the handle in just be careful not to put to much stress on the cord if it will sit like that often. Overall I like the dryer quite a lot. It's a good dryer, and I thoroughly enjoy using it

    Best hairdryer I've ever used

I was a bit skeptical at first about the Dyson hairdryer. I've been using various hairdryers my whole life but this is a completely new design and take on these machines and there were a lot of promises about quieter operation, better results, etc. However, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the Dyson! The overall construction and design makes it a lot easier to maneuver while drying my hair. I have fine, straight hair and have always had to dry my hair upside down in order to get the most body out of my hair. I would still end up with a ton of fly-aways. Using the Dyson, I started without any attachments to get some of the moisture out of my hair and then I used the smoothing attachment. The unit was set in the middle for heat and airflow and I would say that my hair was dry in less than 5 minutes. I finished with the “cool shot” and had only a few fly-aways. My hair was a lot shinier and aside from touching up a few ends, I didn’t need to use my flatiron. By not needing the flatiron, using the Dyson has shaved 10-15 minutes off my bathroom routine! Pros: - Ease of use - Design/comfort/control when operating - Weight of the hairdryer at only 1.8 pounds - Magnetic attachments - 3 varying heat and drying settings and the “cool shot” button (very cool temperature and adds a lot of shine). - Much quieter than other hair dryers - Comes with a silicon mat to lay the hair dryer on while it’s still hot Cons: - Price If you’ve ever owned anything from Dyson, you already know the packaging is second to none. Everything was neatly organized and protected within the box and the quality of the packing materials is outstanding. Of course all of this technology, innovation and quality materials and packaging come with a price. That will probably be the biggest deterrent to most people looking at this product. It definitely has the cool factor going for it and there are benefits to using it as noted above. Overall, it is a great product and if you have the extra money to spend on a high quality product that will likely last a while, I highly recommend it.

Am I crazy? What kind of nut spends $400- on a blow dryer? Well, believe or not, if you can afford it, it's worth it. It comes with a very long (9 foot) heavy duty cord and 3 magnetic attachments. The first thing you notice is the feel. It has a soft matte finish which is very comfortable. It is well balanced in your hand and it never gets hot to the touch. It also is quiet and makes a sound which is much more pleasing to the ear than the typical hair blower makes. It has 3 speed and 3 heating controls all within easy reach of your thumb while operating the dryer. It also has a cold shot button located next to the power switch. All controls are very intuitively placed and can be operated without looking at the buttons. It is very powerful and blows tremendous volumes of air. Also, the temperature is checked and controlled 20 times per second. You will notice that once you set the temperature, it remains constant. Other hair blowers keep getting hotter the longer you use it. This results in damaged hair from the excessive heat. Your hair looks and feels better after using this dryer. It produces negative ions which reduces static in the hair. The air enters the unit on the bottom of the handle where the removable filter is located. This is located farther away from your hair than it is on other hair blowers. This results in less hair and dandruff clogging the air intake and affecting performance. If this was a product that was only occasionally used, I would not recommend it due to the price. But in my household, someone is using a hair blower almost every single day. So, if you consider the number of uses you will get from this, the cost is justified. I do recommend this and would buy it again..
