Eddie and the Cruisers/Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! [Blu-ray] [1989]

Eddie and the Cruisers In the early 1960's, Eddie Wilson (Michael Pare) and his band The Cruisers enjoyed a brief fling with success, but their career came to a halt when Eddie's badly damaged car was discovered in an accident on a bridge. However, Eddie's body was never found, and years later, a reissue of the group's only album sparks rumors that the mysterious Eddie might still be alive. Frank Ridgeway (Tom Berenger), Eddie's former piano player and lyricist, finds himself trailed by Maggie Foley (Ellen Barkin), a reporter trying to find out the truth about Eddie, as well as another former bandmate who wants Frank to join his revamped version of the Cruisers -- and is trying to track down the tapes for the Cruisers' unreleased second album. While not a box-office success on its original release, Eddie and the Cruisers developed a following after its showings on cable television and release on videotape; this led to the belated success of the film's soundtrack album, featuring a number of bombastic neo-Springsteen numbers by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. Beaver Brown saxophonist Michael "Tunes" Antunes plays Wendell, the Cruisers' sax player and Eddie's best friend (despite the fact that we never hear him speak). ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! This sequel to the rock & roll mystery Eddie and the Cruisers explains many of the questions concerning the mysterious death of 1960s rocker Eddie Wilson, who with his Cruisers was celebrating the success of their first album when he got in a terrible car wreck, from which his body was never recovered. Also missing were the masters from the group's upcoming second album. This story begins 25-years later as Eddie Wilson is found living in Montreal under an assumed name. At this time, the masters from the second album are finally released and suddenly the whole continent is caught up in a resurgence of "Eddiemania." This inspires Wilson, who continues to use an alias, to form a new band and hit the road. Once again, his music is provided by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

If you are a fan of these movies, then you already like them and no need to review the acting, etc.. It is the visual and audio quality that has not been mentioned much in reviews. Keep in mind this movie was made before movies were digital and the conversion to DVD and Blu-Ray are not as good as today's movies. Even though there is a following for these two movies and most of us have been waiting for a Blu-Ray version, this is still not enough sales to justify a full remaster. With that said, the picture quality of the Blu-Ray is a step above the standard DVD and makes the movie more enjoyable. This is especially noticeable in the daylight scenes. However, the audio is still the same 2 channel stereo from the standard DVD. My old DVD's are 4:3 format and no matter how manipulated still look like terrible on a 6:9 4K TV. I would not have paid the standard retail price for this set. I got this set on sale and it was worth it alone just for a little better picture in wide screen. I use a quality AV receiver that will up convert the audio to Dolby Pro Logic II, which helps the audio. Turn up the volume up and enjoy!

i would say that these movies were better that I remember them. Not the best acting, but then most movies of this type don't have great acting, but the music and the fantasy story line is what i enjoyed the most along with the great price for two movies. Being able to watch both movies un-interrupted is so much better than straining to follow the story on broadcast on TV. Cruisers 2 is like "the rest of the story".

I have to say I'm a big fan of the first Eddie and The Cruisers movie... a fine movie with a excellent original soundtrack. I've been wanting to watch the movie again for awhile but hadn't been able to find the Blu Ray til I seen it here on the website. I haven't been able to fit a viewing into my schedule yet but am planning to do it very soon.

First and foremost, this has the great music of John Cafferty, whom is a native musician, whom resides in the New England area, and promptly put them in the lime lite with it's great music throughout the film. If you like a little mystery thrown in with some great music, pick this baby up..

The only flaw here is the lack of extra features. By now, someone could have come up with some additional content, but I guess the studio didn't care enough. The first film is one of my favorite movies of all time. The second movie has its issues, but is still fun. Classic music too!

Eddie and the Cruisers 1 & 2 are great movies in my opinion. I can watch these movies over and over thru out the year and not get bored. from the band forming to the singer pulling a disappearing act and then becomes someone else, yet he is unable to change

While I think the second film sort of destroys the mystery of the first film a little the first Eddie and the Cruisers is so underrated it's insane. Easily one of the best rock n roll movies ever made. Could watch this a 100 times.

Two blu-ray movies at a low price! Yeah, the second one isn't that great, but who cares? Picture and sound quality are pretty decent, considering how old the movies are. If you enjoyed Eddie back then, you'll enjoy it now...
