    Open box purchaser BEWARE

I ordered an open box-excellent version of this laptop and paid for expedited shipping because the description said it was in like new condition with all parts/accessories and no damage; therefore, it's the same computer and I'd save ~20% on a thousand-dollar laptop, right? WRONG. Here's why: The laptop arrived several days later and the first red flag was that it was STILL ON. As soon as I opened the lid the screen turned on and showed me it had 20% battery left and the computer was running a bit hot because it's the middle of June in the South and it's notoriously hot in the back of a UPS truck. Then, I noticed the laptop was in demo mode. Odd, yes, but I figured that I could just exit out of demo mode and sign in as a standard user and use the laptop like normal. I go to the Start menu and see that it's currently signed in as a "Darren Dejuan" user with some random email that has a bunch of letters and numbers behind it- another red flag, but I figure I can just sign out and delete this user. Boy, was I wrong. I tried 11 different ways and could not sign out the original user no matter what I did. I even went to the data recovery settings to do a master wipe of the hard drive, but then the window popped up that said "are you sure you want to allow settings to make this change?" and only had a "no" box. Further, it said I must sign in as an administrator in order to make these changes but gave me no sign-in box. My frustration level is now a 5/10, but hey-I just got a great laptop at an amazing deal so I'll put in a little extra time in order to get it working. I then call BB customer service, thinking I can just get someone to tell me over the phone how to reset the computer. Instead, the CS worker tells me that I must PAY to have BB reset the computer for me, whether they come to my house and do it or I bring it in because I chose not to buy Geek Squad support at the cost of a few hundred dollars when originally purchasing this laptop online. Infuriated, I hung up the phone. Frustration level is now 10/10. A few minutes later, I'd convinced myself that I had talked to the resident idiot with BB customer service in India and decided to call again. This time, I spoke with a guy who said "no, the original CS worker was wrong and you bought a laptop that should have been in 100% working order, so we're gonna fix it". He went on to tell me that BB would either send me another open box-excellent laptop OR, in the case that they didn't have any more of those then they would send me a brand new item at no additional cost. He put me on a 20-minute hold to escalate the call since he didn't have the authority to make the final decision, then I spoke to a third person. After explaining the ordeal to them, they informed me that they were the wrong person and I was transferred to a fourth customer service person, the Final Boss with charisma level 10, intelligence 10, endurance 8, and agility 8- a formidable opponent for anyone who dared challenge her. Much to my chagrin, the Final Boss echoed the positive sentiment from the second CS worker and said BB messed up after she listened to my original two recorded calls. She apologized with her 10 charisma (speech check passed) and said she would email a return label immediately since I lived an hour away from the closest BB store. Further, she would place an order for a replacement laptop now and it would be delivered via expedited shipping, arriving no later than 6/25 since I had originally paid for expedited shipping and needed a replacement laptop for my dying HP. I thanked her and ended the call, which gave her +1210xp and a 2* legendary armor piece (it was just leather armor so nothing too special). Since it was already the end of the day, it was too late to return this unusable laptop. I packed it up with the return label, SHUT DOWN THE LAPTOP ENTIRELY THIS TIME and left it with a full battery, then took it to the closest return facility when they opened at 0730am. Fast forward several days and I get an "order canceled" email from BB, informing me that my original order had been canceled. I hope that this just means my original laptop was canceled and that a replacement was on the way, but alas it was not. I wait two additional days with no follow up emails from UPS or BB to indicate "order shipped/processing/out for delivery" etc and it is now the end of the day on 6/26. I received a call from a blocked number late last night but heard the cackle of what I could have sworn was the Final Boss' laugh in the background, relishing in her victory over yet another unsuspecting foe. Lessons learned: 1) [still] don't buy Geek Squad protection, because it's hella expensive and doesn't actually do anything for you in most cases 2) don't buy an open box item for computers unless your favorite game is Russian Roulette with a Glock 3) I'm 99.9% sure the same people who spam call you from India with "we've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty" also work a 9-5 job for Best Buy CS 4) BB won't let you call your local store directly anymore, so if you want to reach someone there directly you'll need to get their cell phone number while you're inside the store; otherwise, you'll be transferred to India when you call the "local" number 5) I'm not sure who the Final Boss actually is, but congratulations: you just beat a one-legged transgender Space Force veteran widow who fought in two World Wars (online) for your freedom and is allergic to uranium. I hope you feel better about yourself. TLDR: tried to save money with an open box laptop, was sent inoperable demo laptop, was lied to by CS multiple times, now it's 10 days later with no laptop and am forced to make another purchase since original laptop is dying quickly

    Love it!

I really like this laptop. It's small but has enough memory and processing speed for my needs. It was very easy to setup. and it's a sleek stylish laptop. I'm very happy with this purchase.
