    Not good at all

This is a pretty horrible paper shredder. I suppose it’s ok if you only shred a few pieces of paper every once in a while but otherwise it is not worth the price and aggravation. I’ve had mine for a couple of years and I hate it every time I use it. I really need to get rid of it and get a better one. It overheats after just a handful of pieces of paper - maybe 12 and fed one at a time. Forget putting a few sheets at once - it will jam and overheat in no time. And the shredded paper, even when it goes through, gets all stuck under the shredder and you have to pull it out by hand. Looking at the photo I just took (see photo attached) of the paper jammed in the shredder, I see that it says max run time is 2 minutes. That explains why it overheats so quickly. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is that it will shred a sheet or two so it’s not totally worthless. And note that it is NOT a cross shredder.

When I purchased this shredder in the store, it was the only one available at the time. Since Christmas was looming and my husband's main gift was delayed until after Christmas, I figured a few small items he'd been wanting would suffice for being under the tree. He was actually pretty excited about the shredder, used it that very day and all was well. And continued to be well, until I had a real use for it. I didn't overload it, I followed all the instructions in the manual and despite only feeding it one sheet of paper (standard paper, no less) at a time, it kept jamming. After only 3 or 4 sheets, I'd have to turn it off and clear away the shredder area. The paper also stopped cutting two ways, only doing long strips. The needlenose pliers became my friend because it was the only way to find all the little jammed pieces. I am beyond the allotted days to return this (of course) and have already purchased a better shredder. If you only need it to work for the first 20 days, this is the machine for you! If you'd like it to be useful for longer periods of time, I'd suggest you find a new one.

Do not buy this item. I had a stack of old financial documents I'd been accumulating for many years and finally decided to dispose of them. Given today's rampant identity theft I decided to buy a paper shredder to insure these documents were properly destroyed. I don't usually have a need for this in my day to day life so I chose the cheapest shredder Best Buy carried. Not sure if it's due to the price or the manufacturer, but this shredder constantly got clogged and over-heated when I tried putting in several sheets in at a time. When it over heats you have to wait 15 min for it to start working again. Knowing that I started feeding only one sheet at a time and things got better, but then I would have to clean the shredder blades after like only 8 pages. It took me hours to work through a stack of maybe 100 pages. If you only need to destroy small amounts of papers at a time I guess it's an ok product, but if you ever expect to have more than just a few pages to shred, find another product because you will be very disappointed with this one, which is why I'm taking mine back.

    Not a Crosscut Shredder

This shredder is listed as a crosscut shredder on the box and on the Bestbuy website: a crosscut shredder does not cut the paper into rectangular strips that can be read, and instead cuts the paper into small shapes almost like paper confetti and makes it hard to impossible to read or paste together the cut pieces. Some crosscut shredders do a better job than others, but they all DO NOT cut the paper into readable strips. This shredder cuts the paper into small strips about 1.5 inches in length which can easily be read and pieced together by a thief with the patience and time to do it. I would NOT recommend this to anyone that wants a real crosscut shredder. Spend a few more bucks and get good crosscut shredder, it will be worth your peace of mind. I couldn't return mine since it was past the return period. SO STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLUNKER.

I bought this shredder when I was updating my home office 3 years ago. At the time I didn't read the reviews. When I first bought it I started noticing the issues right out of the box. 1. It over heats very quickly, after about 10 pages shredding. 2. That it doesn't shred the number of pages that it says it does. If you try to shred 6 pages at one time like it says it will, it will take a few minutes for it to shred. I noticed that it slows down considerably when you put 2 pages in. 3. The paper will get stuck in the blades and you will have to remove the paper that gets stuck in it after every pass. I don't shred like I would like due to this fact, I burn it. I don't like that it overheats quickly, even when you just start out using it. I also don't like that I have to clean out the backed up paper in the blades. If you are considering this shredder, don't! I would spend the money for a better one if I would have known about the issues with this one. I am now in the process of trying to find one like what the office has as it works way better!

I made a great choice with this simple, easy and quiet shredder. It's fairly compact in size, with a sturdy top that removes in a snap from the basket below (has a built-in handle). It has one simple switch on top, which slides to "On", "Off", and "Reverse". Nothing complicated. I put the unit on a chair, next to another chair that I usually sit in, plugged it into the outlet, and turned it on. A green light immediately appeared above the switch, showing that the unit was ready for use. Next to the green light is a red light, which will light should the shredder become overheated. That's not happened yet. The basket is also lightweight, with a small window towards the top, letting you see when the basket is nearly full. I don't mind that it only shreds up to 6 pages at a time, as it does so in a flash. The icing on the cake is that the unit was quite inexpensive. Perfect in every which way for me. Glad I found it.

This shredder definitely has some much needed power when you're shredding a good quantity of junk mail,(envelope and all). Same goes with all receipts, bank or medical info, and Credit Cards. I actually got the opportunity to test an old CC that got replaced at the beginning of this year, and the whole thing was nothing but pieces....very impressive! Usually all of these shredders get jammed stuck or frozen when you try to do too much, but not with this bad boy. Yes, I wish it could shred a larger quantity of paper at the same time, and they do offer other Insignia shredders that are for larger capacity use and are awesome, but this one is just right for my office. You never have to worry about getting your information stolen when you dump the shredded trash into the garbage, because this machine does a great job on shredding all that info into little bits of pieces. My main intention for getting a shredder was to make confetti for a New Years Party, and to my surprise it worked perfect! Right cut, shape, and easy to clean up..... I couldn't have been happier

Originally I didn't wish to purchase this brand shredder. I purchased the Dynex online however when I got to the store the shredder was not there despite getting a confirmation text and email. So we spent 20-30 minutes, the Best Buy team and my family trying to find and fix the problem. A nice young man asked if I would be willing to switch the brands because I already paid for it and really needed a shredder. I got a free drink for my difficult transaction and at least a shredder. For this shredder I recommend doing at most 3 sheets at a time not 6 because the paper actually gets stuck into the blades. I have to clean out the blades continuously to make sure the shredder works well which I have learned is after every use. I don't recommend using this shredder for an office just housework if you want a good quality office shredder then you'll have to spend a little more money. All in all my papers get shredded and it does take care of credit cards too. There's a window in the front to see how full it is getting and an overheat switch. Don't put in stapled paper or paper clips.
