Came in handy when there were no DVI-D to VGA adapters available at my store. I thought it would not work, but I obviously just do not know my connections very well! I used my adapter with my NVIDIA 750 TI, NVIDIA 770, and eventually, when I no longer needed the VGA monitor, with an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB. While I had my VGA-only monitor, I needed this for my three-monitor wide Surround experience. It was valuable as nowhere around my area carried these kind of adapters in store and I do not normally order online. My only complaint was with the tightening screws. One of the screws was not seated into the proper place, and would not allow for me to fully tighten the adapter into the GPU on one side. It was not a big deal as I was not normally throwing my monitor around my room or taking the ol' rig for a walk around the block, but it would have still been nice to have a fully seated adapter. Please do keep in mind this did not ever effect my gaming. The monitor never unintentionally unplugged. The adapter was always seated and screwed in on one side, it was just not screwed in on both sides. The one unscrewed side NEVER EFFECTED MY GAMING OR COMPUTER USING EXPEREINCE.

I got this adapter to convert from DVI coming out of the computer's video card to VGA to a signal duplicator. The adapter works 100 % percent fine, BUT on some, or maybe all video cards, the outputs are placed very close together. With that being said, this adapter has excess plastic flaring out the sides to a point where if the adjacent output from the video card is being used, it gets blocked from being plugged in. I am aware that if you use the wrong combination of cables and plugs in similar situations, you could run into the same problem. The solution would be to cut or grind off that extra plastic until your other plugs fit. In my situation, I don't need that. I have kept the adapter and use it and it works great! I discovered this predicament with the extra plastic because my friend needed to find out which dvi-to-VGA adapter would work for him... he uses dual screens and I noticed it then.

DVI can be more complicated than VGA

DVI = DVI? No. DVI-i = has pins over the horizontal little piece in the plug BUT if the device you need it for is a new monitor that is rocking a DVI-d then those little pins will be frustrating. DVI-d has no pins over the horizontal piece in the plug's end. From my experience, all current/standard VGA's have identical layouts as far as plugs. 3 stars because of my innocence wasn't able to use it yet (gonna try a DVI-i to DVI-d plug for it) but it seems to be a high quality product. In my recommending to my friend, I would make sure they realized DVI is not just DVI and how to recognize what plug they'll need.

When we went into the store, we did not know the exact name of what we needed, but explained our problem in great detail, and what we needed to remedy it. The clerk did not understand and quickly got frustrated with us. He constantly made us feel stupid and unwelcome. Just as we were about to leave, we found this product, and the clerk finally understood our request and said we should have asked for a different thing. We know we are not computer experts, that's why we go to Best Buy to ask questions!! Very unprofessional and condescending!! Product worked out great, though!!

This adapter is a very simple solution to the problem of having a fully functional computer monitor which is VGA and buying a new computer which is DVI (digital output). It never occurred to me that my monitor wouldn't work with my new computer, but a little research showed several solutions of which this adapter was the simplest and one of the cheapest. It works perfectly and was easy to "set up" (plug it in between the monitor cable and the computer), so there was no need for anything more expensive..

It was pay day and as I tried to open my computer it kept sending me an error message. I couldn't go beyond this page. I talked to a Geek Squad rep, got an appt and took my hard drive to the nearest store. After he troubleshooted possible problems he suggested I replace this adapter. It worked. I was able to send in my payments on time and I haven't had any more problems since. I am now more aware that these adapters do age after moving so many times in many years and the contacts on it weaken.

I was glad to be able to pick this up at a local store; I needed to connect a monitor with only a DVI connector to a video card with only a VGA connector. I could have bought one for quite a bit less money online but I was able to pick this up in store same day at my local best buy which was worth the price difference to me. Really, as far as DVI->VGA adapters go, from my experience they are all equal. They either work or they do not; they don't have or need any other features beyond that. This one works.

The Best Buy rep in the store knew exactly what I needed when I was trying to tell him what the Dell Premium Service Tech in New Delhi, India told me to get to use my new computer - my monitor is about 4 yrs old & has a different type of connection than the new CPU. I came home, plugged it in & my monitor came on immediately. I'll be back, I have another monitor to get plugged in to my new CPU.
