What can I say? I love it.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is just the perfect speaker for me. I'm a *bit* of an audiophile. While I'm not a HUGE audiophile, I appreciate good audio. I have a setup in my living room that is a Denon receiver and JBL Studio speakers. It's a very good setup, overall. But I wanted something smaller because I am moving and I'm starting to appreciate less clutter and less big things. My other go-to bluetooth speaker is very portable and gives me problems when connecting, so I jumped on this Xtreme. I am a fan of JBL products and I felt the design of this was very slick, smooth, refined, and not overstated. Just my thing, so I gave it a shot. The first thing I noticed when placing it on my table was, wow. It looks great. Really great. Happiness level 10, so far. Then I fired it up and connected to my phone. It paired quicker than any bluetooth speaker I've used before (that includes two TDKs, Jabra, and a cheap Amazon-ordered budget device). Now the important part: the sound. The sound is great. I have an open living area with a vaulted ceiling which is open to my kitchen. All in all it's probably 600-800 square feet with a high ceiling. I felt that it very adequately filled the room with audio without sounding stressed out. Can it run toe to toe with two JBL Studio bookshelf speakers and a JBL 10" sub? Well no. It physically cannot. But what I'm getting at is I was VERY satisfied by the unit's overall output. Considering its small size, the bass was not bad. Again, it'll never be able to match a 10"+ sub, but for the size, I was pleasantly surprised. It gives enough boom to make me happy, even when turning it up with songs I knew would challenge it. I then paired it with a JBL Charge 3 that I had recently purchased (also a great little speaker!). The pairing was quick. It worked well. My one little gripe about the pairing is at times one speaker would die out for a moment. It was quick, but it was there. It seemed to get better with time. Also, my charge seemed to be louder than the Xtreme each time I paired them. I'd have to go back to the Xtreme and turn up the volume on that particular speaker to try to balance them. (I had them on either side of the room) That said, I have not yet downloaded the JBL app. There may be a solution there, which may even include updating firmware. I'll give that a try sometime. All that said, I'd buy this over and over again. It's a great unit. I didn't even get into the other features, like its good battery, which not only can power the unit for hours and hours on end, but charge devices when you have no other power access. I didn't even get into the fact that I could have it pool-side and not worry about it getting splashed because of its build quality and water proof rating. It's a fantastic all-around speaker. I think JBL hit a homerun with this and the Charge, and even the Flip (which a co-workers owns and I've heard). The speakers look great, sound great, and function just as you'd expect (pairing, controls, etc). This is an absolute home run if there ever was one in the bluetooth speaker world. Bravo, JBL.

great sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had one for about 3 years already, take it to the river all the time, put it in my raft and last all day on a full charge. When I saw this on sale I had to get me another one, now I pair both Xtremes together and the sound is great. I also own the JBL boom box but I would rather listen to both of the Xtremes in stereo than the boom box. When I have these playing people will always look over to see what type of speaker is playing - have had plenty of compliments on this speaker.

Outstanding Portable Sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bring my Xtreme almost everywhere I go: work, photo shoots, places with friends. Pros: - Bass for days. I leave in the morning fully charged and have played music at high-volume for long periods without concern of finding a plug while out and about. - Filling the spaces. Living rooms, lighting studios, workout rooms. End-to-end sound, with complementary bass punch included. - Life-Portable. I've placed this speaker on a rock in the middle of a pool below a waterfall along with other equipment and didn't think twice about it's ability to handle the mist or the occasional splash. The carry strap also makes porting this around convenient. - 1-Press Simplicity. After pairing my speakers with my laptop/phone, I now only need to turn on the speakers (within tens of feet!) and get to work Cons: - With great power...This speaker has a little weight to it, which is good and bad. Good as it helps keep it grounded on it's proportionate feet, bad if you need to carry it for long periods. - LFM: Bass Buddy. I don't have two to try the JBL Connect. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, especially if they do day-trips to places without power or like competent speakers to play music with friends.

WHAT? Better speak up, it's loud in here!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Holy BOOM STICK Batman! I watched/read a couple hours of reviews before this purchase. We have a Sonos system in the house, and we wanted music on the upstairs patio/downstairs deck. We thought about another Play:1, but the weather in KC, MO is...intense. The Sonos isn't weatherproof. Then...when we go to the pool or need mobile tunes...the Sonos is worthless without WIFI. So I started looking for a Bluetooth speaker and started with UE. Their Megaboom seemed like the Bluetooth portable class favorite. And yes, it is smaller, a little cheaper(?) and fully waterproof. It also doesn't sound as good. ...and what's the point if a speaker doesn't sound good?! With the intent of listening outside (and not underwater) the JBL beats it hands down. In every way, unless you just need a smaller or waterproof solution. Inside, it sounds better than the $200 Sonos Play:1. Outside, where it counts, it sounds open and full with a real bass response, thanks to the 2 passive radiators at each end. (I also love watching them vibrate...it's very old school bass head satisfying.) I listen to rock, rap, metal and old school country. For what it is, this thing pounds. The expectations have to be reasonable though. Don't max the volume and don't expect it to hit like a trunk full of 12" JL subs. I always listen to a few songs to test any new speakers. U2's 'With or Without You', Ozzy's 'Mama I'm Comin' Home' and 'Brass Monkey' by the Beastie Boys. With the right setup, they all have tons of low end. Those songs will give any decent sub a workout...and they have enough high end that they won't sound right if the system isn't balanced. The JBL passed the test with flying colors. Did I mention it has two USB ports than can charge your phone/tablet?! Killer!! It really is excellent! Some of the best money I've spent in a while for sound. The JBL Xtreme was perfect for the patio/deck/pool tunes!

Excellent sound from a portable speaker.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker produces sound that comes from much larger speaker and with good clarity. It comes with all the necessary connections and a shoulder strap. I do wish it came with a handle. None to be found so i made a paracord handle which works very well.

Q: QuestionHow long does it take to fully charge this speaker? Also is the speaker long lasting?

This question was asked about the related product: JBL - Xtreme Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black
- A:Answer The battery of the XTREME normally charges from 0 to full in 3.5 hours using the cable provided. And is rated to give up to 15-hours of playtime depending on volume level, the type of audio you are playing and the method of connection (Bluetooth or Wired).
Answered by JBL Support
Q: Questiondoes jbl extreme led display turns off while in battery mode?
Asked by drizzy7154.
- A:Answer The battery LED indicator on the XTREME, once charged, should stop blinking and show five dots lit, stating full charge. However, if the unit is being used while plugged in, the battery indicator would not stop blinking as the battery still drains power while being charged. If the speaker is switched off when charging, the battery lights should shut off when fully charged.
