    Synopsis

    Kill Bill Vol. 2
Quentin Tarantino's sprawling homage to action films of both the East and the West reaches its conclusion in this continuation of 2003's ultra-violent Kill Bill Vol. 1. Having dispatched several of her arch-enemies in the first film, The Bride (Uma Thurman) continues in Kill Bill Vol. 2 on her deadly pursuit of her former partners in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, who, in a furious assault, attempted to murder her and her unborn child on her wedding day. As The Bride faces off against allies-turned-nemeses Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), she flashes back to the day of her deadly wedding, and we learn of how she was recruited to join the DiVAS, her training under unforgiving martial arts master Pai Mei (Liu Chia-hui), and her relationship with Squad leader Bill (David Carradine), which changed from love to violent hatred. Originally planned as a single film, Kill Bill grew into an epic-scale two-part project totaling more than four hours in length; as with the first film, Kill Bill Vol. 2 includes appearances by genre-film icons Sonny Chiba, Michael Parks, Larry Bishop, and Sid Haig; Wu-Tang Clan producer and turntablist RZA and filmmaker and composer Robert Rodriguez both contributed to the musical score. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

    Kill Bill Vol. 1
Perhaps the most highly anticipated film of 2003, Kill Bill Vol. 1 marked the return of renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino after a six-year hiatus. Re-teaming the director with Uma Thurman for the first time since 1994's Pulp Fiction, the film was originally the first half of what was to be a three-hour-plus movie before being split into two films. Thurman stars as The Bride, one-fifth of a team of assassins called DiVAS. When The Bride opts to leave the outfit for a life of marital bliss, it doesn't sit well with her boss, Bill (David Carradine), so he has her former cohorts, played by Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, and Michael Madsen, show up at the nuptials, leaving behind a blood bath. Miraculously, The Bride survives a bullet to the head and, four years later, she sets out for revenge against her four assassins and their employer. The story is concluded in Kill Bill Vol. 2, released six months later. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

At this point, Kill Bill is a trope definer. It's a nod to just about every major film in the Kung Fu or Japanese Western drama while staying completely American. And the Blu-rays make it all the more satisfying. Volume 1 IS stronger than Volume 2. There's waaaaaaaaay more fighting, it's extremely edgy, Lucy Lui is a tough lady to compete with. Volume 2 shows you the struggle that the Bride had to endure to get to her status as the number one lady assassin, and the culmination is heart warming. From a director who's renowned for making characters (and memes) with big personalities, Kill Bill has the biggest of them all. EVERY main character in this movie is a scene stealer. That's hard to beat. I'm not sure why she wasn't even nominated for an Oscar in '04 or '05, but her definitive racer bike attire has already cemented her a genre icon. As for DVD vs. Blu-ray differences...There's no contest. Miramax did their homework. So buy the Blu-ray. This version has a solid Blu-ray cover (not 40% reduced plastic) and nips for both discs on each cover. It's not a separate two package bundle. Apparently Volume 3 is "seriously" in the works as of this writing, so catch up with all the blatant bloody squibs and kitschy choreographed fighting in this two volume staple from the glory days of the 2000's.

I bought this deal, but exchanged it because there were short audible tones in two places of Volume 1, sounds that briefly took out the audio of the movie. There was a single, brief audio tone that also was in Volume 2. Unfortunately, the exchange copies had these extraneous audio tones in the exact same locations. Credit, though, to Best Buy, who gave me a complete refund, and I got to keep the movies. For free, I can't worry about a couple seconds of interruption. But BB needs to figure out where the quality control on these movies went down the drain.

These two films have it all, especially revenge. No one else could have told this story as impeccably as Tarantino has (especially since he wrote it). If you like Kung Fu you're in for a treat. It's no Ip Man but David Carradine's in it (as in Kung Fu...all you old guys know what I'm talkin about....Snatch the pebble from my hand, lol) and he is as mean as a snake. Uma Thurman will blow your mind as "The Bride" on her quest for vengeance. Why are you still reading?! Just go out an get this Bluray and enjoy!

This Blu-ray 2 disc set was a great value for under $10. Tarantino captured some great visuals and outrageous over-the-top action sequences in these 2 films. If you enjoy dark comedies, cult films, martial arts movies, and action blockbusters, this 2-part story is for you. I highly recommend viewing these movies on disc versus the heavily edited or toned down cable versions. obviously, this movie collection is not for children due to adult language, mature themes and detailed violence.

      Tarantino's Kungfu Revenge Epic

It's Tarantino's kungfu/samurai/yakuza mashup revenge epic that even co-stars David Carradine along w/ a couple Asian legends in key roles amongst many other fun references. Definitely a must for any fan of old school kungfu flicks... though some may find pacing a little sluggish in the 2nd half. The usual Tarantino caveat for violence and gore applies, so this is not for the faint of heart...

This is quite possibly one of my top 3 favorite Tarentino films. It has a lot of action with vast amounts of bloody fight sceens. The blood is obviously fake, but that adds to the overall charm of the film imho. There is pretty much always something happening so you never get board. I also like how the story skips around, but you never get confused by the nonlinear sequencing. But, of course, the final chapter is exactly where it needs to be.....at the end.

This film is a culmination of everything that Tarantino made before it. It is one of the best films he has made, if not the best. The acting is fantastic and the writing and directing are also amazing. As always, Tarantino writes a fantastic story with tons of violence. His influences when making this movie are even more interesting and his use of animation and a great cast make this a really fun movie to watch. If you see this film, you will not be bored.

Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill is the film that exemplifies his style more than any other film he has directed. This film perfectly combines the martial arts and western genres seamlessly through a tale of revenge. Uma Thurman's character The Bride is one of the greatest female action heroes of all time and this movie is one of the greatest films of the last 20 years.
