    Synopsis

    Limitless
A struggling writer unlocks the full potential of his brain by taking a cutting-edge pharmaceutical, only to find that his newfound abilities have made him a target for some of the most greedy and dangerous men on the planet. Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) is an author without a novel. No matter how hard he tries, he just can't summon the inspiration to write a single word. That all changes when an old friend wanders back into Eddie's life, and opens his eyes to a powerful new drug called NZT. The moment Eddie takes NZT, his brain begins functioning at 100 percent, giving him the ability to quickly recall every event in his life down to the smallest detail, learn new languages in a flash, and harness the untapped power of complex mathematical equations. But when Eddie's supply of NZT runs out, the party is over. Of course, it doesn't take Eddie long to make a mint on Wall Street, and when he does, it draws the attention of Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro), one of the world's most powerful and prominent businessmen. With Eddie's help, Carl plots to arbitrate a complex corporate merger that will shake the establishment to its very core. Just as the deal is about to be brokered, however, some dangerous characters discover Eddie's secret and come gunning for his dwindling supply of medicine. Now, if Eddie can just endure the debilitating side effects of NZT long enough to run for his life, he may just survive to see another day. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Inspired me to take up writing on the side

I have to admit that the inspiration I just wrote was the last thing I would expect to happen when I purchased this limitless (starring Bradley cooper) dvd at my walmart job for just five dollars back around September 2014. After all, my husband and I enjoyed watching limitless together when we saw it in movie theaters in 2011 and were both drawn to the idea of the possibilities that could be unleashed if a person can increase their intelligence/genius by just taking a pill. I was mainly looking to explore that possibility again when I purchased this limitless dvd,but something just clicked in me in the scene when he accomplishes the feat of writing his novel. There have also been a series of positive incidences that have also gave me a reminder on how seeking out wisdom and striving for the greatness of genius have been discussed; a natalie portman articIe online where she acknowledged the importance of intellectual growth (I intend to update this review later with one of the articles because I’m aware she is widely known for both her brains and beauty), coming across a book at my job where a woman realized that her beauty can only carry her so far and that her greater focus must be on wisdom, a local news article discussing benedict cumberbatch’s role in the imitation game, and a yahoo news connection on chris hemsworth starring in an upcoming movie based on someone known for their genius). However, I wish to avoid saying more on it and to just at least acknowledge that this movie limitless and the actor’s (Bradley cooper)portrayal inspired me to pursue a side writing career ( a new years resolution). Bradley cooper stars as the character of eddie morra, whose life turns 180 degree turn for the better when he is given a pill that expands his potential. Morra ends up attacting the wealth and love that he craves. However, he meets gets his life turned upside down by another powerful and wealth man named Carl Van loon (Robert DeNiro) who would like to exploit his abilities at morra’s expense. The following dvd extras are attributed to limitless; immortals, the warriors way, season of the witch, x-men first class.

      Good non-comedy Bradley Cooper

I enjoyed Bradley Cooper in the non-comedic role, his character's interaction with De Niro (transformation from side-kick to competitor), and the all-inclusive storyline (eg from writer to day trader to business mogul). The story has an exciting, but mysterious, pace from beginning to end perfectly mirror the portrayed excitement and mystery of the drug. (Even continuing the mystery through the ending, though not a huge cliff-hanger.) Abbie Cornish seemed a little flat, but maybe it was just her character compared to the liveliness of Cooper's (post-medicated) and De Niro's (cut-throat capitalism).

Wanted to be Inception, but Missed the Mark

The movie has an excellent premise, but somewhere around the middle of the story, someone decided that it was going to be a downer and switched direction midstream. I love a happy ending, but only if it's plausible. Example, one character demonstrates the inevitable, negative results of taking the drug. Somehow by the end of the movie the main character alone, experienced what not one other character had not. I won't spoil the ending for you, but I'd trade one episode of the TV show Supernatural for this thing. The writing on that show is way more believeable. That said, the visuals were very good. I recommend you watch the first half with the sound on, then turn it off until the very end. Might as well, you'll understand just as much either way.

If you choose to watch this movie, i'd do so with an open mind and not on a too serious note. Don't think too hard on the story and what might be considered plot holes. I just imagine this movie as something of an alternate reality and not to take it on any serious level at all. It has some comedy in it, not much, sends some confusing messages. Plot holes are more or less along the lines of, if you are so smart then why do some of the things you do? This is where the movie fails to capture reality. However from an entertainment stand point it's fun, and intriguing. Again, don't take it too seriously, i'd recommend it on a night where you don't have anything better to watch.

Lucy's writers should have taken notes

If you liked Lucy, you should love this. If you liked the concept of Lucy, but didn't live up to it's potential, you should try Limitless. I saw this movie in theaters and really enjoyed it. The story revolves around a struggling writer that gets his hands on an experimental drug that unlocks (temporarily) the full potential of his brain. He uses his new ability to turn his life around, but he begins running into a myriad of problems ranging from unexpected side effects to dangerous thugs who want the drug for themselves. This movie is very entertaining for the action fan, but still stands above the plotless explosion-fests that movies are defaulting to these days.

Another movie I would give 4.5 stars to if able. I can't go 5 so hence 4. One more item that drags it down to a 4 is the old style digital copy. Every movie now should have a digital HD code so you can use it where you want, not just iTunes. Back to the flick. Excellent, interesting story. Pace of the movie keeps you tuned in. Excellent cast with Bradley Cooper giving a fine performance. Finding a drug that could actually work like that would indeed be mind boggling. Couldn't help but have some side effects, could it? I got this cheap. Well worth it. Solid movie that will entertain you. Check it out.

Everyone remembers Lucy right? The 2014 film about Scarlett Johansson using a new drug that allows her to unlock 100% of her brain and basically become a god? This film is a lot like that, except, not half as dumb, and twice as interesting. And it did it all 3 years before. Which isn't to say it's the most brilliant film ever... Because let's be honestly, any movie about drugs allowing you to use all your brain will (ironically) force you to shut your brain off to enjoy it. But with that said, what is here is a good action film that at least won't leave you completely bored.

I purchased this Blu-ray, because I've never seen it available on any of the pay cable channels. It's definitely worth buying, and I'm glad that I did. This is a very original movie, great screenplay. The film was released in 2011. Where Bradley Cooper unlocks 100% of his brain. Similar to the current hit "Lucy" currently in theaters, starring Scarlett Johansson. Other than that, both films are completely different. The Blu-ray and DVD include an Exclusive Alternate Ending. Unrated Extended Cut / PG-13 Versions on the film. Great Acting & Excellent Movie. Starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro. 105 Mins.
