    Love Exposure
One young man's journey to find the girl of his dreams and please his father takes an unfathomable number of wrong turns and bizarre detours in this epic-scale comedy drama from writer and director Sion Sono. Yu Tsunoda (Takahiro Nishijima) grew up believing in his mother's admonition to find and marry a girl who was pure of heart when he grew up, and after her death, Yu's father (Atsuro Watabe) became a Catholic priest who's very interested in the state of Yu's purity. Father is convinced Yu is guilty of more sins than he's willing to confess; that isn't actually the case, but in order to please his dad, Yu sets out to rack up a more impressive record of wrongdoing. Yu becomes a small-time pornographer, trafficking in photos surreptitiously taken by pointing his camera up the skirts of young women, and his work is impressive enough that he's approached by an adult film company to star in a string of porn films for them. But just as Yu is getting involved in some serious sin, he meets Yoko (Hikari Mitsushima), a beautiful and virginal teenage girl who is appalled by the behavior of most men -- so much so that she constantly challenges them to martial arts battles, which she invariably wins. Yu sets out to win Yoko's heart, but their courtship attracts the attention of Aya Koike (Sakura Ando), a member of a religious cult who thinks she can recruit them to their numbers. Ai No Mukidashi (aka Love Exposure) was an official selection at the 2009 New York Asian Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Genre: Comedy, Action Length: 3 hours, 57 minutes "Having grown in a devout Christian family and desperate to please his sin-obsessed Catholic priest father, young Yu (Takahiro Nishijima# a fairly normal kid who has no legitimate sins to confess decides to take on sinning big time and becomes a master of up-skirt photography while perfecting his ninja moves required to get just the right angle on his subjects. Things become complicated when our drag-clad hero meets the woman of his dreams; the man-hating Yoko #Hikari Mitsushima#, who's involved in all-out street brawl and beating up a gang of men. This four-hour epic was a new york times critics' pick and winner of the prestigious caligari and fipresci prize awards at the 2009 berlin film festilval. Directed by the great Sion Sono #Suicide Club#." Epic is definitely a word that can be used to describe Love Exposure. Pulling in at just under 4 hours, it's the longest movie that I've ever watched. I told myself that I would watch 2 hours one night and the other 2 hours the next, but I liked it so much that I just watched it all in one sitting. I might have been a little zombified for work the next day, but it was worth it! Being nearly 4 hours long, the plot in this one is built up extremely well. You're exposed to every single thing that happens to Yu and how he's driven from being a normal Catholic school boy into a perverted delinquent. The same also applies to his love-at-first-sight, Yoko and Aya, the recruiter for the Zero Church. All of the characters are seeking their own unique idea of a family as they try to overcome obstacles in their lives. Yu can only confess his love to Yoko while he's cross-dressing as Ms. Scorpion which just adds to his troubles. The ending almost felt a little rushed which is hard to say with it being 4 hours long! However, it looks like it was originally almost 6 hours long but was trimmed down. That's one heck of a movie! This one only has Japanese audio with English subtitles as it's an import movie. If you don't like reading, you probably want to skip on this one unless you can understand Japanes. Sadly, there aren't any extras on the disc. I would have liked to have seen the 2 hours that were cut from the final version. Enjoy!
