This was the kit recommended to me by the salesperson at Best Buy for my 2001 Mustang. It fit in the opening, which is a good start. Of the four screw hole tabs only two lined up with the existing screws. It was a tight fit to make everything line up. After I got it all screwed together, I found that it wasn't as stable as I'd hoped. I opened it back up to add the extra support piece provided for some installations, but it doesn't line up on anything to be useful. I'm not a professional radio installer, so maybe I missed something...but I don't feel like it was very straight forward for an average consumer. If there was a better fitting product available, I'd buy and recommend that instead...but this one does do the job.

More Complicated Than It Needs to Be

For a cheap piece of plastic this kit is more complicated than it needs to be. We followed the instructions to the letter and have installed other stereos in the past. But we literally had to call Best Buy and talk to someone in the car installation department to figure out how to make it fit. He knew IMMEDIATELY what was wrong and told us how we had to cut pieces of plastic off of the kit and remove parts of the stereo to make it work. NEITHER of those steps were in the instructions for the stereo or the kit. Glad we bothered to ask for help. Still, it was worth saving the $60 to install it ourselves and now we know for the future how it all comes together.

Needed to buy it in order to install my replacement deck in my Escape. Wish it had come discounted/included with installation. Seemed a bit of a "bait and switch," but that's how business works nowadays. Putting a deck in is easy, IF you have the testing equipment. Unfortunately, I would have had to put it together and PRAY I followed the instructions properly. So, I coughed up the $85 and had Best Buy do it. On a good note, they WERE the cheapest I found, but if you have a friend that can wire the harness for you, do that and buy the $20 dash mount kit yourself.

      Good Harness- Bad Instructions

The harness works great in my 2002 Ford Ranger. The only thing that I didn't like were the instructions. For the Ford models, they instructions said to cut off the four screw mounts, which I did. After doing so, half the mount went in but I could get the other half in. After 15 mins I realized I didn't remove the complete screw mount on two of the mounts, the instructions didn't show this. I would compare the instructions to those from IKEA.

Looking around online, I found basically two kits for our vehicle. Left with the choice between these two, or custom-forming plastic to make an aftermarket radio work, I chose this one. It's a no-brainer, really. If anything I blame Ford for designing a center console that requires custom plastic to make things work. It seems to me to 'waste' space up top, while providing only one CD case worth of storage below.

This dash kit looks all good when you buy it. Come time for installation in my truck I had to cut pieces off of it just to fit in the bezel. It can't be bolted into the bezel to increase stability at all. There is another from metra for the same vehicles that is better and can be bolted properly. Don't buy this if you can afford to wait for the better one to be ordered.

Works well. Does the job. For my vehicle, 1998 Ford Ranger XLT Regular Cab, the instructions actually say to cut off a couple of parts of the unit. Kind of strange to have to do that but it all worked out. I could see how it might not have though. :) Overall, works well. It's one of those things that you don't even think about after your initial setup. I guess that's good though.

Doesn't fit right, slightly bowed in at top

The dash kit is cosmetically poor and does not function as intended. Although, it does cover the factory space, The storage compartment (which is a part of the dash kit.) that is above the custom stereo unit is slightly bowed down from the dash ( doesn't quite fit .) making it tough to get fingers in it to retrieve stuff ie: remote etc. and not giving it a custom fit / look.
