Another what is life question movie

There are a number of good actors and actresses in this film which would cause the viewer to expect a rewarding experience. This is a science fiction, quasi horror, film which is based on one of the oldest themes in literature. That is the theme of the creation of artificial life by man. In ancient times this was expressed in the legend of the Golem, an assassin made of clay by a Rabbi who then destroys the enemies of the community. In the 1930s this was seen in the film "Frankenstein" where a scientist creates an artificial man from parts of the bodies of other men. Both of these films adhere to religious principles. By the 1950s this went something like "There are some things man is not meant to know." Man must not challenge the domain of God (the creation of life) or he will suffer a dire fate. This was particularly found in the final scene of the horror classic Curse of the Demon when the scientist has now become a true believer, but still doesn't want to be convinced of this new belief. It is also found in the legend of Prometheus whose crime was giving man knowledge and was punished for eternity as a result. More recently there is also an emphasis on man's behavior when confronted by beauty as he sees it. Men in particular, tend to equate virtue with that which is beauteous, often to their misfortune. After the success of excellent quality special effects the effects themselves began to be a massive detraction from entertainment in general. A film that propelled the Frankenstein genre farther and faster due to it's excellent effects was "Blade Runner" about android slaves and assassins where the major emphasis on the film was on whether an artificial life form could have real emotions. So in Morgan we have a human created android designed to look like a woman, which is only five years old, and is greatly beloved by the team of geneticists who created the creature. To cut to the chase, and to spoil the film for you, the experiment, as expected goes disastrously wrong. There is no hero in this film. There is however a merciful end to the experiment when the amoral (as expected) artificial creature is finally killed. The character who closes down the project is played by Kate Mara. Her presence on screen is far more appealing than publicity stills convey (to me at any rate). It is her presence that makes this film worth watching. This is the center of attention for me. Like many men, I am attracted to beauty and that is amply found in Kate Mara (and that's why I pay to see stupid films). The rest of the film follows a familiar well worn formula and is somewhat entertaining once you get past the illogic and stupidity of the basic scenario (a common fiction problem). The film, like many today, relies on glossy special effects to amuse the viewer. The industry benefits now, as always due to the fact that a film is a way to get a date to go with you for a few hours away from home. A great deal of film attendance is due to the impetus of dating, not of the virtue of the film being viewed. Since all the scientists in this film make the same obvious blatant mistakes as are found in so many films of this type, the writing is a disappointment to me. So that makes it an average film. For any of those who worship the idea that artificial life has merit I point them to the episode of The Outer Limits, particularly the end sequence of "Demon with a Glass Hand" which remains the definitive human appreciation of this topic.

With the Advent of 4K hardware, software titles are becoming standard issue. This review is of the quality of the disk itself - you can read the movie synopsis elsewhere. (It was an entertaining movie..seems like part 2 of ex-machina to me.) Okay, here is what i noticed: a) Picture Qualty: 4K titles always have a Blu-ray disc in the case. Interestingly enough, the Blu-ray picture quality excels past standard Blu-ray offerings!! As a result, i never buy just the Bluray title when a 4K is offered. b) The price of 4K titles have become reasonable...they are now in the price range of the usual 3D Blu-ray offered titles. c) Codec: It's exceedingly rare to find 3D and 4K offered in a set ... can someone direct me to one? I know 3D is phasing out, but i for one enjoy it, and would pay a couple dollars more for a set simply because it has 4K and 3D in the set. d) Audio: DTS was the king of Blu-ray releases...but DTS-X is rare for 4K..instead Dolby Atmos seems to be king. This is a bit of a caution if your interested. If you dont have the set up for DTS-X or Atmos, the channels are folded into the other 7.1 channel... as a result (at least on my 7.1 Analog system), the sound is so spacious and spread out, that is comes across as too thin. I decided to test it out to find that routinely if i switch over to HD-5.1 instead of 7.1 the sound is fuill, rich, and more powerful. So, actually, i'm pretty bummed about this. (Has anyone else experienced this?) Sorry i dont have a receiver with HDMI input or an 9.2 set up for ATMOS...yet, so this is just my experience. But, that being said, even the HD.5.1 blows away the DD5.1 or 7.1 offered through the digital out. then again, maybe its just my receive transport combination because despite what reviewers and critics said, there was a sizeable and very noticeable difference btwn uncompressed audio blu-ray discs and DTS-HD Master...so much so, i spent a good deal of time tracking down all the discs encoded with PCM-Uncompressed Audio. cant wait to upgrade to my next pre-amp/amp just to experience the next level quality.

I saw this trailer on an other Blu disc. Produced by Ridley Scott - That sold me right there. I actually saw the latest ALIEN film the night before I picked this up. I was in a Ridley mood and found the blu at a great price at my local BB so I picked it up and watched it. I enjoyed the film a lot (more so then the latest ALIEN film!). I kept thinking I knew Morgan, I recognized the face but just could not place it then realized she was the star from THE WITCH - cool creepy movie but over rated in my opinion. It has a BLADERUNNER feel to it I won't say anymore about that. As my summary says it was pretty easy to figure out what's what. With that said it was still a fun entertaining film which asked some provocative questions. It was worth the price of purchase and I have recommended it to several friends.

I first learned of "Morgan" by reading a blu-ray review online. The reviewer completely trashed the film and it's filmmaker (who happens to be Ridley Scott's son Luke) and after reading the review I thought "There's no way this movie could be THAT bad....I must see it for myself". I rarely discuss details about movies figuring that there are many other ways for people to learn about plots. All I will say is after watching Morgan I went to Best Buy and bought this BD/DVD combo. For those who care, the picture quality is excellent and the disc is mastered with 7.1 surround sound. I'm glad I ignored the critic and I think many of you will enjoy this movie as much as I did.

This Blue-Ray held my attention and made me wonder what could, or possibly what is currently in the process of happening in our and others scientific communities. The ability to develop super clones or warriors. What lengths does mankind reach for the struggle of power? Sitting back, the plot is ongoing and consistent. With at each different outlook, a new turn came that for some will be unexpected. The acting was smooth and not overwhelming. Being a very good movie, I enjoyed the movie and if you are into a little science fiction you will also like it, hope you do to! I would purchase again!

I know many hate this movie and I can see why but not for the usual reasons. I think it is a great move in many ways, it is just that it is very dark with a very dark and violent ending. The movie seems like a wake up call to humans playing around with nature. The whole idea of controlling it the way we want is full of dark and tragic surprises. Even though I felt it was a well done movie and in places beautiful and thoughtful I had a hard time shaking the bad feeling I got at the end for a couple of days. This is not a movie for those who prefer happy endings.

Morgan was a good movie but I've seen this plot line before. What was good was the suspense and action. The things that was not so good was the movie was too short! Needed more back story about Morgan and her creators. Not enough was said about the true mission of Morgan. We knew about creating a human being using technology but was she created for other purposes. Another aspect of the movie was it's ending. it wrapped but to quickly and didn't answer all the questions the plot raised. I think this movie is good but not much is included to make it a great movie.

I love watching movies that I've never heard of so that I can go into it with no pretense from so-called expert reviews or carefully edited previews. I had never heard of this movie before reading the back cover at Best Buy. Being a sci-fi geek, the plot sounded intriguing. The move kept my interest from the very beginning. Even though it was very predictable, I stayed engaged in the plot the whole time. If this was on DVD, I would give it 3 stars for being an average movie. But it's in 4K, so it's awesome!
