This is my second Orbi system. I initially invested in the original RBK50 (router + satellite), later adding a plug-in unit and an outdoor satellite to achieve exceptional coverage across two floors, a basement, and a 1/4-acre property. After relocating my home office to the basement, I had to rely on WiFi to connect my Mac to the internet—something I preferred over committing to a full rewiring project. While speeds in the new location were decent, they dropped from over 800 Mbps to around 300 Mbps, even with a plug-in satellite placed just a few feet from the Mac. I also began noticing that anytime we experienced a brownout or power outage, I had to reboot the original Orbi system—something that hadn't been an issue for years. With my daughter starting a new work-from-home role and our increasing dependence on smart home devices, I decided it was time to upgrade the mesh system. Although it's only been a day or two, I can already say the upgrade has been worthwhile—not just in performance but also in the ease of setup. It took about an hour to fully install, including firmware updates, satellite placement, and ensuring all smart home devices were properly connected. I’m a fan of the new units' appearance and their smaller footprint—though the original system was also fairly sleek. I'm glad I opted for the 3-pack, as I follow a "one per floor" philosophy for mesh coverage. CONS: This system was nearly twice the cost of my original setup, which I bought as an early adopter. The router and satellites feel somewhat flimsy due to their lightweight plastic construction—I was hoping for a more solid, premium feel. It’s disappointing that the black version is a Netgear.com exclusive. I connected both my Mac and a game console directly to a satellite’s Ethernet ports but didn’t see the high speeds I was expecting. That may be a configuration issue, so I’ll need to explore the settings. Lastly, reconnecting the outdoor satellite has been more difficult than the app instructions suggested—something I’ll need to troubleshoot further. PROS: Speeds are excellent—truly lightning-fast WiFi. Coverage is robust, and I’ll update this review once I verify whether it extends outdoors without the dedicated outdoor satellite. Setup was smooth and straightforward. The smaller design makes it easier to place units strategically throughout the home. I plan to update this review as I explore more of the system’s capabilities. I’m especially looking forward to building a dedicated IoT network for smart home devices (which I’ll need to research) and digging into the system’s security features. All in all, I’ve been a loyal and satisfied Orbi user for years, and this upgrade has certainly lived up to expectations.

This mesh system fixed all the dead zones in my large home. Setup was simple, and I love that each satellite has Ethernet ports for wired devices. Totally worth the upgrade!

Pricey and Tall.. But moving from the ASUS AX, immediately saw WIFI speed increases (same locations, same device, same tools). The hand-off between stations has been good. We have approximately 40 devices connected w/ 3 TVs, multiple computers and phones.
