Synopsis

Night of the Creeps
Virtually unnoticed during its brief theatrical run, this wildly entertaining horror-comedy achieved healthy cult status following its home-video and cable TV releases. The directorial debut of Fred Dekker (writer of the successful horror parody House), this low-budget effort throws alien monsters, axe-wielding killers, flesh-eating zombies, nudity, and (gasp!) drunken fraternity shenanigans into a blender, spiced with witty one-liners and references to dozens of horror classics (and anti-classics). The result is a satisfying treat that will tickle the tastebuds of horror fans. The film's nominal protagonists are a pair of randy fraternity pledges (Jason Lively, Steve Marshall) who open a literal can of worms when they steal a corpse from the campus medical facility and release a horde of space-leeches, which proceed to infest the bodies of everyone in sight. The host bodies subsequently become homicidal zombies with a penchant for popping in on unsuspecting (and undressing) sorority girls. The town's only hope (such as it is) seems to be a hard-boiled ex-cop (Tom Atkins), who has uncovered the secret link between the zombie invasion and a 30-year-old axe-murder case... and who's also several sandwiches shy of a picnic. Dekker keeps things moving at a brisk pace thanks to some outrageous set-pieces (some of which happen so quickly they'll have viewers reaching for the pause button) and clever dialogue, particularly for Atkins ("Girls, the good news is your dates are here; the bad news is, they're dead"), who dives into his crusty character with relish. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

I think overall the acting surprised me the most for what was maybe a decent horror/spoof of the mid to late 80's. Top notch acting, great special effects for the budget they had and the quality of the Blu-ray is actually quite good. Aside from the great acting the special features are actually what really did it for me with this purchase. They are as follows: * Commentary with Writer/Director Fred Dekker - An audio commentary with Michael, the DVD producer and Writer/Director Fred Dekker. Dekker gives a more technical insight about the film and how certain cuts were made. Especially certain scenes that Dekker enjoyed. * Cast commentary (Jasone Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow and Tom Atkins) - A lively, hilarious and insightful commentary by the four talent of the film. What's even more interesting is to hear the cast see the original Fred Dekker ending for the first time. * Original Theatrical Ending - (:30) The original theatrical ending. Which one do you think is better? It's important to note that the Director's Cut ending was shown on television while those who saw the original theatrical cut, own the VHS and LD saw this ending. * Deleted Scenes - (7:45) Seven deleted scenes: The Girls Meet Johnny, J.C.'s Positive Thinking, Cameron vs. Raimi, Making cookies, Raimi Follows Protocol, Cameron Spies Spanky, Chris Stays Behind * Birth of the Creeps - (10:43) Director Frank Dekker, the Cast and crew talk about Frank Dekker and how the film became a reality. * Cast of the Creeps - (15:56) Featuring a reunion of the cast (Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow and Tom Atkins) who talk about their involvement in the film and working with each other. * Creating the Creeps - (10:31) How the special make-up FX was created and interviews with David B. Miller (Special Make-Up FX Supervisor), Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman (Special Make-Up FX Creator) talk about their involvement of the film, the challenges due to the short pre-production schedule and more. * Escape of the Creeps - (11:35) Charles Gordon (Producer), Michael Knue (Editor) and Director Frank Dekker talk about how the film became a hit with fans. But also why the ending was changed and how they didn't like the ending the execs wanted. * Legend of the Creeps - (10:59) How over 23-years later, the film has a cult following and Director Frank Dekker and the cast talk about why they think the film has done so well with the fans. Fans talk about why they love the film. And how this film is so different from today's horror films. * Tom Atkins: Man of Action - (19:53) A celebration of Tom Atkins career and talking about his film career and tidbits of the talent he worked with in various films. And how fans love to ask him questions about "Night of the Creeps". * Trivia Track - Fans can watch the film via trivia utilizing subtitles. * Original Theatrical Trailer - (1:32) The original theatrical trailer Enjoy and highly recommended!

"Night of the Creeps" is definitely one of the better B-movies that are out there. Granted, like all B-movies it's a bit hokey at times, and also follows along the trademark lines with films of this caliber (obligatory boob shot, corny dialogue, poor camera techniques, etc.). But give "Night of the Creeps" its due. First of all, it is fairly original for a B-movie. Alien slugs that infest the brain and turn you into a zombie may seem like a typical B-movie theme, but it's portrayed in a fairly unique manner. Given the time period of this movie's release, and it's obviously small budget, I'm quite impressed with the special-effects of the alien slugs as they race along the ground throughout the film. They're so simple, that it makes them look realistic and somewhat unnerving. In horror films, it is often the most simple effects that are the most discomforting to the viewer. I put these alien slugs along that line.

Hokey and schlocky - but a lot of fun.

Fans of '80s horror movies will enjoy this homage to alien & zombie movies of that era. Making fun of itself as much as it does the films of this decade, "Night of the Creeps" will be a treat for those who enjoyed the horror and alien flicks of the ''50s through the '80s. Most of the actors are not household names with the exception of actor hero, Tom Adkins. Adkins adds a lot to the film's "less-than-serious" attitude about itself. Production values are not great, but the cheesy aliens and skimpy zombies don't take away from a fun experience. So grab the popcorn, turn down the lights, suspend your disbelieve, and relive the genre'.

I really enjoyed this movie honestly. I bought it on a hunch that I would enjoy it, the reviews that I had read from previous viewers sounded like it was a good horror movie and to be honest...it was! The storyline was not bad and the action scenes were really good and it even had some funny parts in it as well! Worth checking out for sure!

If you're a fan of '80s horror, you've probably heard of or seen this movie. Being a fan, I decided to check this one out. It's definitely one of the better low-budget horror movies to come out of the '80s, with a heavy dose of comedy to make it a great movie to watch after hours. Tom Atkins is the highlight of the movie as Detective Ray Cameron, and is worth watching for him alone. Highly Recommended.

It is a throw back to the old movies of the late 50's and 60's. The acting is about what is expected in this type of movie. It has a better than average plot, and I happen to like this type of movie. You can sit back and just enjoy it. It is easy to follow and doesn't take itself too seriously. It is just a fun movie.it

Night of the Creeps is a cult classic for good reason. It works well as a good quality b-movie and a great quality eighties horror comedy. It's a funny, ridiculous, and most importantly fun time. Audio and video quality are great as well. It comes packed with a good deal of awesome supplements to dive into for fans of the film.

A great cult classic of the 1980's where an alien lands on earth and infects a college student. Over 20 years later the frozen student escapes and speads the virus to others causing chaos on the college campus. Great over the top fun and effects, the cast is all very funny and the movie is a great joy to watch.
