      Jaded Twice!

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I bought the camera once for a wedding in the Philippines and took it to the water once double checking that the latch was securely locked. Two minutes into the water the camera stops taking pictures. I go out and see that the latch somehow opened. Angry I talked to Samsung about manufacturer defects but got nothing. Begrudgingly I buy the same camera cause It was still on sale. It was fine for a year, although I never took it into water. Later, I find a crack in the hull. I never dropped the guy and honestly barely used it. Another vacation comes and I, to test it, try it in water again, and it breaks again. The camera took fine pictures, not alot of amazing features, and low light pics weren't too great but fine. But I'm quite upset this is happening again and thought I should say something to let you know that, despite all the good reviews, you might get jaded too!

Worked great until just past one year warranty

Received this camera from Best Buy as a birthday gift in May 2016. We opted not to purchase the in-store warranty since the last camera we purchased (a Panasonic) lasted us 4 years and that's about the time for a new one (technology). Imagine our extreme disappointment while on vacation in July 2017 when this camera stopped working, naturally 2 months past the manufacturer's warranty. I contacted Nikon and sent it into their service center for repair, a week later received a call that the camera was irreparable. Called customer service and there's nothing the can do. This is my first experience with Nikon, I've always had Cannon and Panasonic in the past. I WILL NOT be a repeat customer.

I have the Coolpix 120, but when I thought I lost it, I bought this one (it’s orange, therefore I needed it!). It’s a good camera, but not great. It takes beautiful underwater pictures, but when I try to take night shots (a parade, for example), it doesn’t perform as well as I’d hoped. It’s possible that it’s me, but the photos aren’t clear or sharp. But underwater, excellent. An added bonus is that it’s drop-proof. I’d definitely buy it again. PS- I found my 120 about three days after I bought this one.

Great Camera - would like to have more zoom

I needed a waterproof camera to take on my kayaking and backpacking trips, so after much research, I chose the Nikon Coolpix W300. I really liked the zoom on my Nikon Coolpix S8200 (14x optical zoom), so I was a little disappointed when the W300 only had a 5x optical zoom. Otherwise, the camera operates almost identically to the S8200 which made it easy to transition. I like the GPS capability and the altitude readout on the screen since I do a lot of mountain backpacking. The pictures are very clear and the camera is very easy to use.

      Good and bad

Great pictures when it takes. Found that when use underwater sometimes but not all the time it will stop responding. It will turn on and off but none of the other controls will work. After removed from water and dries for 30 mins or so it goes back to operating as normal. Never know when this will happen and very disappointing when occurs and miss a great pic on an island vacation. Bought Nikon as better reviews than cannon. Had been buying Cannons for 35 years and will continue from now on no more Nikon.

Perfect for underwater photo and video

I have taken some amazing underwater pictures and videos with this camera. It's size and durability, insure that I'll always have it ready, when I'm in the water. It's simple to use, and can take a beating. It's also takes amazing pictures out of the water, and has some very cool modes that produce great effects. You won't have the control that you would with a DSLR, but it's a lot easier to carry around.

      Holds up to construction

This is the third camera that we have bought like this and overall they have been great for pictures and durability. This model is a little more awkward that the older models because it is a little more bulky which makes it harder to hold. The only other thing that we would request is that they came with a wrist lanyard other than just a neck lanyard. We take hundreds of pictures daily and would recommend this camera for construction conditions.

      Great point and shoot camera.

I purchased this camera for an upcoming trip to Hawaii. I previously had the 120 version of this camera which did not pass the waterproof test on my last trip. So far I have not tested the waterproof feature. I have found it to be a great point and shoot camera thus far. The picture quality is very good, and I am amazed how well the zoom works, even after the picture has been taken. I am still learning all the features, but so far so good.
