    Turns into Read Only Cache

I used this drive to back up critical files for a research project involving audio and video files gathered from the internet or on location. I liked the idea of having more than enough space to store files for transfer between a laptop used for field research and a more powerful desktop used for compiling the final report. At a point after six months using the drive to store the research, I forgot to remove the drive from my desktop computer at shutdown. The next time I started the computer, the drive was locked in a read only mode, meaning I couldn't edit the files on the drive or add new information from the field. Lots of information is available on how to correct the "PNY Read Only" problem, except none worked. I even researched how to unlock the "computer administrator" login for Windows 7 thinking I could supersede mere "user" permissions assigned to the format and used to create the files. Turns out PNY was it's own "administrator." I've sent the PNY, my $39.95 plus tax, my last research update, and the PNY "permissions" to computer recycle heaven, where hopefully a better manufacturer will change the matter molecules into something more universally useful.

Okay, so I was in the market for a flash drive with a decent size to move pics from an old computer and keep safe until I finally get the new one, as a backup more or less. Saw a great deal for this drive and went to the store. That in itself was a pain which should be it's own review but that's for another day for another forum. Purchased and took it home. Put it into my PC and formatted and transferred the pics into the flash drive. Thinking I had way more space than I did, I decided to add some more files but noticed that the drive was almost full. Went to look at the storage and it said that 24gb of 32gb of useable storage had been consumed. Thought it was weird. Found some videos on how to reformat the drive in order to get the full storage capacity. So, I went about moving everything from the drive back to the PC. Went through the step by step instructions and nothing happened. The drive was still only showing 32gb, I looked at the drive and made sure that it was the 64gb and sure enough it states it on the side. Unfortunately, the formatting made it only have 50% of the actual storage capacity be useable. Tried several methods and nothing, but unfortunately by the time I caught this, it was too late to return to the store. Completely disappointed and will not recommend to anyone much less a friend.

This drive is perfectly adequate. However, note that it is made with relatively inexpensive materials and only comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty (other flash drives on bestbuy.com come with a two year or five year warranty and a few come with a "lifetime" warranty). The shell appears to be made entirely of plastic to include the connector (previous drives I have owned had a metal connector) . I am using it to listen to music in my car so I don't plan to frequently connect or disconnect the drive. It should be perfectly adequate for that purpose. I'm not sure how durable the drive would be if used for data transport where it was frequently being connected and disconnected. However, it seems perfectly acceptable as a semi-permanent data storage device for my car. Again, the drive seems to work acceptably; but, cannot attest to its long term durability. The lack of a metal connector coupled with the manufacturer's decision to only provide a one year warranty for this device makes me suspect that it may not be as durable as similar capacity drives that use a metal connector.

Failed after 2 weeks, after safe ejections each and every time and about 400 scans of receipts, one at a time spanning 30 years. During failure it failed to recognize the drive, and asked if I wanted to reformat the USB drive, which I elected not to, so I could pursue some type of data recovery. Lost all data, contacted manufacturer technical support immediately, who said it occurs from time to time, nothing could be done, referred to me to a software supplier of data recovery software, who never followed up to send the free download, after signing up for the demo software. Nonetheless I tried 2 additional different software recoveries, and both could not find the drive. Best Buy did exchange the drive for a different supplier, which made the bad experience and 2 weeks of lost time scanning and organizing the receipts less painful.

I wanted to install some hidden object game collections to this flash drive so I have some games to play while I'm on the train. So this was on sale during the flash sale at an even better discount so I bought it. The write speeds for USB 2.0 seem a little slow and aggravating installing stuff to it. Maybe that's not what the intended use for it is but nonetheless it's working. It will just take awhile to install. Could have installed the games to an external hard drive but it's too big and bulky to do so, so this PNY 64GB Flash Drive does the trick. Already did the Steam install test - No Good, won't work and times out due to slow disk writing speeds. Needless to say you can use this flash drive for different situations, but your results may vary.

Works Fine, Needed in a Pinch

I can't believe how poor the selection of USB flash drives was in store at the Anaheim location. This was the only one with more than 16GB of storage, and it's only rated at 2.0 speed. I needed a drive immediately, so this was the only option that made any sense with my time constraints. It took a few hours to transfer the photo files I needed it for, but it worked with no issues, and all of my files got transferred. With that said, look for a a USB 3.0 drive if possible for faster speeds.

    Worst Flash Drive Around

This was the first flash drive I bought in a while as they usually break on me. I had around 64gb to save so I thought I would try it again. I was so careful with it to ensure it didn't break. Than what I didn't even think could happen did. My computer died while data was transferring, It just needed to be plugged in but the flashdrive could not be found after that and neither could my data. I called the company and Best Buy, no one could find help. I had it for 2 days before this happened. Very disappointed and fusterated. I will never buy this name again.

Decent drive but a real challenge to format FAT32

Bought this drive to use for MP3's in a Ford Edge Sync system. The drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 in order for Sync to be able to use it. Normal windows format utilities will not format this drive FAT32 (in Windows XP or Windows 7, I'm assuming because of the size of the drive). Google search for HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, that program will format larger drives to FAT32 easily (use the full format though not quick format, I did the quick format first and a 64GB drive only showed up as 31GB) Hope this saves someone the time I wasted trying to find a solution.
