My desktop PC recently had an overnight update pushed by the manufacturer. It took nearly two hours to boot upon completion and i was frightened that i had probably lost all of my clients information that i need for work. Once it booted i needed another option to keep my files safe. I moved all of my important documents to the USB 3.0 thumb drive and i can now sleep at night knowing that their information will be safe if my system ever crashes unexpectedly. It’s transfers information lightning fast and performs flawlessly. Never any issues and my documents are saved safely and quickly allowing me to rest assured that my information is protected and not in a cloud somewhere. I would highly recommend this particular unit to anyone seeking a cost effective alternative to cloud storage. Since I’m only saving PDF files, it takes up relatively little space and i back my information up every couple of months to be on the safe side. If your pc has slow boot issues and you don’t need a lot of space, this would be a low cost effective option to safeguarding your information.

This drive wasted two hours of my time, and corrupted itself repeatedly on both Windows and Mac. I started out just trying to copy some photos onto it for a friend on Mac. It disconnected after two files were copied. I tried again with a whole bunch of methods like restarting or waiting. The drive even ejected itself while I was waiting! It became increasingly corrupted, even changing its name and the files on it to gibberish. I thought: maybe it's just a Mac issue. No! The flash drive behaved even worse on Windows. It was so serious that Windows 10 could not even repair the disk. After a long period of freezing, I was finally able to reformat the drive on Windows 10. After trying again to copy some files to it, the entire corruption process started again. This flash drive is not reliable at all. I'm taking it back for a refund, not an exchange.

About Me: 30 yr old advanced Windows PC user, student, video game and simulation programmer. * OS PNY 64GB USB is used on mostly * Microsoft Windows 7 32bit 2.10 GHz Pentium Dual Core Processor, using only USB 2.0 ports to connect the thumb drive to the OS. Since I my OS does not support USB 3.0 I cannot provide a comment or specs pertaining to USB 3.0 transfer rates. [ PROS ] - great price! Item was listed during on Cyber Monday for $26.00. - plenty of stock readily available - fast transfer/write rate between devices when using USB 2.0. Device averages transfer rates between 8MB to 16MG per second for USB 2.0 - Manufacturer claims device is 10x faster than USB 2.0 when using USB 3.0. However I cannot certify or provide speculative feedback. Most every other USB 2.0 sticks have read/write rate is 3MB to 6MB. - The device functions similar to a lipstick tube. Requires user to pull back covering to expose the port plug. - 1 yr limited warranty [ CONS ] - product registration not available - extended warranty not available - data loss not able to be insured - limited product replacement policy (applies only to device malfunction) and not user failure if manufacturer deems user caused the product to malfunction.

First and foremost, it's important to realize that you MUST have a USB 3.0 port on your device for this flash drive to operate at full capacity. On a system with an M.2 solid state drive running 16GB of RAM and an i5 7600K processor I can achieve 45 MBps (megaBYTES, not megaBITS) read/write speeds, which is just fine for me. That's about 85% of the speed at which information transfers from one harddrive to another within my system. I save a system backup image on this flash drive every week which is 45 GB in size and it takes no more then 18 minutes. This used to take several hours using an external storage drive

I caught this thing on a deep sale price, with a $10 rewards credit, I ended up paying three bucks for 64GB. My first PC had a 200MB hard drive that I paid hundreds extra for! 64GB seems to be the sweet spot in price/capacity right now. That's half the size of some of the SSDs you'll find out there, so a great way to add capacity to a low-end machine. Stick this in a ChromeBook, and you almost have a real computer! I use it for moving files between machines. I get read speeds or around 100MB/s for large transfers. Write speeds are much slower, around 20MB/s.

Needed For User Backups When Hurricane Irma Hit

As part of our immediate needs for Hurricane Irma prep, 2 days before the hurricane was scheduled to get us our upper IT management decided that I must go out and buy thumb drives for people to backup their data onto as needed regardless of the fact that they never felt the need to invest in a sufficient backup solution in the past 15 years I've been with the company. But I went out and bought the drives. None were used at all! Weeks after the hurricane came and went, I had a need to use some thumb drives to make bootable Windows 10 USB sticks. These drives worked perfectly for what I needed them for! I'd highly recommend these for backup or bootable thumb drives!

I bought this PNY drive along with some others as an extra to use for some general data transfer tasks, wanting the USB 3.0 speed upgrade to help move my tasks along--and it certainly didn't hurt that they were on sale at the time. But when I got the drive, the speed was hardly better than USB 2.0. After comparing speeds between this one and other drives of the same size and type, but of a different brand, there was just too much difference to justify keeping the PNY. I still like the PNY brand, and would recommend trying it on your system if it's on sale, as I think the issues I had were due to compatibility with my system, not any problem with the drive itself.

PNY makes several different qualities of their USB flash drives, this style is the more durable one, you can tell just when you hold it that the plastic is higher quality than the compact version. I have had multiple sizes of these the main reason for buying this one was to have a USB 3.0 flash drive as I got tired of how slow it was taking to transfer files on a 2.0. This thing is fast, super durable and I paid a great price when I got it on sale. As I'm writing this review I see it is on sale for even cheaper than when I bought it, considering picking up a 128GB one to compliment this. Either way great product that works exactly as it should and even exceeded my expectations for a flash drive.
