• Mine uses one AAA battery. If the battery runs out of charge, you just pull off the longer metal case, install a new battery and trim on.

• This is an odd question because my trimmer takes 1 AAA battery. This trimmer is way better than those cheap things they sell at BB and Beyond. Why would you throw this away just because the battery died? You just pull off the long segment of metal that surrounds the switch and there's the battery.
