Only if you have your Cable/satellite services remote programmed to it can you really go without the Insignia remote.

yes. Standing in front of the TV. Bottom right corner on the side, you can push the buttons and navigate thru the menu, channels etc with ease. No remote required. Just have to remember what button does what. Otherwise you have to keep looking.

No, the remote is needed for setup/sound etc.
