“I would like to use Insignia wireless headphones but I have to unplug the jack to get the tv audio back on . Is there a way to have both sources simultaneously so I can just mute the tv and not have to unplug the headphone jack. Thanks all.”

No, there isn't. If you plug in the headphones, it physically disconnects the speakers. You have to use the digital audio output to an external soundbar, etc to use both.
