It may depend where you are hooking it up at. For instance, I not only live in the sticks on a small hill (mountain), but my system is setup in a basement, surrounded by concrete walls. You may need to run the antenna to an outside source if it cannot pickup signals through the walls or floors of your home. I had to run a connection to an antenna on the roof of my home, which gave me some reception.
