No, all speakers should work. I have mine set up with an optical cable and everything works. The only thing is that, yes they do sound lower in volume than the rest, but everything should work together.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You need to be aware that all TV broadcasts do not carry a "surround" component in the transmitted audio. Try listening to an NFL game, they generally DO carry rear speaker audio, generally crowd noise from the stands. Of course, other TV broadcasts may also be transmitting rear speaker audio but, just remember, not all do.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It should work with all sources, if you are using a surround mode. Do the speaker test to make sure they are all connected and at the proper level. If yes, then check to make sure you're not using a stereo only mode (there is a surround mode button at the very bottom of the remote.)
