“I am having trouble getting sound from Netflix through my smart tv. It plays the cable fine but when I switch to Netflix or any other app through the smart tv it only plays cable nothing else”

Try connecting all your av equipment to the 4 HDMI inputs on the receiver (Instead of TV) . This way you can switch both picture and audio simultaneously.

Your receiver supports ARC (audio return channel) and since your TV is new it should too. All you need to do is connect the HDMI output of the receiver to the HDMI input on the TV marked ARC and turn this feature on in the TV and receiver menus. This may be all that you need to do. I have a smart TV running through my receiver connected this was and Netflix works fine.
