No you cannot. Every computer runs an operating system like Windows, Mac, or Linux. When you install software on a computer (like Microsoft Word), it must be designed for the operating system you're using. All chromebooks use a totally different operating system called ChromeOS. Its very light and basic and is only really intended to get you onto the internet. It won't let you install a program like Microsoft Word, because Microsoft the company hasn't made a version of Microsoft Word for Chrome OS. And never will, since that's really not the point of chromebooks. However, there are other "browser based" word processing options available that you can use on a chromebook.
