It might be a little heavy to carry around for school as it is one of the heaviest chromebooks out there. If I were you I would look at the new acer chromebook 14 which just came out which is a little smaller, a lot lighter, but also is made out of aluminum and looks very sharp.

With Google Docs / Microsoft Office (Web), you should not have any issues with standard documents. It is a rather big machine however. That might be a drawback if that bothers you. The weight is alright. Not too heavy, but not super light either.
