“for photographs I'm looking for a really good 27" monitor that would be good for touching up old photographs scanned from slides for under $300. My eyes aren't so good anymore and I'm just learning how to do the touch ups, so I need a monitor that has the best color possible out of the box (since I don't know how to calibrate it). Would this be a good monitor for that?”

Acer - 27" LED HD Monitor, good quality picture for the money. I got one on sale at Best Buy for $199. Full HD, LED Monitor, Model: S271HL. The 27" LG Model: 27MP33 is also good but is more money, about $249 also at Best Buy.
