You certainly can, it will accept up to 32GB (2X26GB) of DDR4 SO-DIMM 260-pin PC4-17000 2133MHz ram, you can also install pretty much any 2.5" SATA SSD drive with relative ease. There are videos online that show you how to make the switch.

I got 2x 8 gb gskill ram sticks and put in a pny 256gb ssd. makes this laptop super fast. with a fresh os install boot up time was like 5 seconds? only thing i can add to this is to open the laptop take out the dvd drive and undo the screws inside the slot where the dvd drive was. then basically work your way around the edge with a butter knife or something. take it nice and slow. before the entire assembly comes apart i believe the touchpad has a wire that needs disconnected
