You can connect one monitor to the HDMI port on the laptop. You can however use a USB Active Graphics Adapter (DisplayLink): Use the HDMI port for the first monitor and a USB-A or USB-C to HDMI adapter that supports DisplayLink technology for the second monitor. This requires installing a driver to turn a data port into a video port.
