“Just got this laptop and it's great except the backlit keyboard keeps shutting off after about 30 seconds or so. Is there a way to have it stay on? This is extremely annoying when you're trying to use the laptop in a darker environment.”

My wife has one and says that it can't be adjusted. It shuts off after 30 secs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The keyboard backlight turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity. This is by design to save battery life while the system is not connected to the AC adapter. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to modify this setting.
