• Please just plug in the HDMI...plugging in both is not recommended.

• You can use one or the other. The difference is HDMI can give better picture AND sound quality where VGA or DVI can lack. I, however, am content with using a DVI cable for mine.

• Either or, not both. The difference is the connectivity - the VGA cannot process audio so you can't use the 3.5mm jack in the back of the monitor. Also, I prefer HDMI, simpler connection and IMO, better quality.
