  • QuestionDoes this have an hdmi 2.0 port. Also why is it soo cheap, monitors of this screen size are not less than a $110. Whats the catch.

    Asked by ZaryaMain.

    • Answer The IPS panel is sought out for business computing in offices. It can be read from oblique angles to the screen and it resolves color and contrast more consistently from those angles. A TFT TN panel is what is on the great majority of laptops and works very well for a user viewing the screen directly perpendicular to it. I've had both IPS and TFT TN. For my type of computing which is browsing the internet in solo or playing games or watching a movie as a solitary pursuit, I prefer a TFT TN. They cost less to manufacture and are priced lower however Acer does have some IPS panels at 23.8 in. that are pretty reasonable around $120. IPS panels bleed more light between the pixels and affect the black level to appear more like a medium to dark gray. Its ok in the daytime but if watching a Star Trek or Thor film at night with scenes of the cosmos, the bleeding light from an IPS interferes with the contrast of the image, cutting it down noticeably. Sometimes it can look like a slight light reflecting fog in space. Televisions are not IPS because it would have unacceptably illuminated black levels. There is an attempt to prevent light from bouncing around randomly. Gaming monitors are generally not IPS and have very rapid response of 1 or 2 ms. Some are capable of "freesync" which allows for frame rates in proportion to what a video card is producing at the moment. I've had both types and I've found the IPS offers a "view from any angle" quality that I never need while interfering with the black level for film noir, mystery, drama, horror, science fiction and most games. So, I like TFT TN and its low cost.
