Okay so after a night of digging, I contacted Acer support and learned that “Predator Sense/Gaming Mode” needs to be enabled when playing resource intensive games. This kicks the fan speed on to high and lowers the temps 15-20 degrees.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This computer runs hot on intense games even if you run the fans full blast. I upgraded the cpu cooler with a Noctua cooler and it runs much cooler and a lot quieter. With the stock cooler the temps would reach 80 and above even with the fans running high in gaming mode. The case is well vented and Acer's fans are good fans but the cpu cooler is not effective in removing the heat from the cpu.
