Our Acer was bought for exactly that. She loves the speed and being right size for her backpack. This is our 2nd Acer using 1st one 2 years in high school and 2 years in college. Now in her junior year of college she has a new one. I would definitely say yes and uses it not only for school use but watches videos and Netflix as she didn't want a tv in her dorm room.

Chromebooks are different from standard laptop products in that they are designed to be used primarily with apps while connected to the Internet, with most applications and documents living in the cloud. Because of this they don’t have much for on board storage but they also are not expensive either. If you need to use third party software applications that must be installed on the computer, a Chromebook is likely not for you, where a Windows laptop would suit you better.
