“Can this be used with an Acer Aspire R7 laptop? My touchscreen has a large black line running vertically, which makes it difficult to use. A Best Buy employee told me that getting another monitor would not work, but I don't know why. Any suggestions?”

The black stripe on your screen is caused by a bad video ribbon cable that connects the motherboard to the LCD screen. The traces break from opening and closing over a period of time. A new cable can be purchased on the internet for around $25 but it would take some skill to replace so I would suggest a qualified repair service. Using an external monitor through the HDMI connector should work and this monitor offers battery power for portable use but it is very fragile and can be easily cracked so be careful moving it around.

But this being said, check the monitor resolution setting. The monitor supports Full HD. Your graphics may only support a lower resolution. Full HD is 1920 x 1080. Hope this helps.
