“I hooked the main cable box up a set of stairs on a landing maybe 25 feet away to a wall mounted tv below. Turned on the cable box and it worked on tv downstairs only issue is I can’t change the channel on tv downstairs Unless I go back to main source??”

Sounds like the Infrared sensors aren't positioned properly. The sensor that goes to the cable box needs to be right over the infrared sensor on the cable box for it to work properly. There are times when I need to power-cycle the transmitter and receiver to get it to work again. For the most part, the device works great, but can be a bit quirky at times where the receiver looses the transmitter (maybe once a week or so).
