• A:Answer The purchase is for one year only . In order to keep it , there is a monthly fee so in a way yea a subscription is necessary to keep the program after one year . In the past the program could be bought but it was very very expensive over 1500. If you need a more basic photo editing program just buy one from a different company and never have to pay monthly. I am a photographer and like the extras that is available
