“What happens if the computer you install this on breaks? Would you have to repurchase the software? Or can you use it again on the new system, just so long as it's only being used on 1 computer at a time?”

When purchased, make sure you register the product. If your system crashes or computer dies completely I would contact Adobe and ask how to move the application to your new system after all you did purchase the application and you do have the codes to load the application again. I'm sure they will help make the transition.
