• You can plant regular seeds, but you need the pod to put the seeds in. The pods have a growing medium in them and are designed to fit into the aerogarden. They sell pods that don’t have seeds in them for that purpose

• I am just getting started, The seeds that I took out of a fresh tomato have sprouted. You can buy kits from Aerogarden or get replacement supplies from various vendors to plant your own seeds. I scraped out the seeds in one of the herb pods I got with the set and used that.

• There is information online for creating your own pods to avoid having to buy them. My daughter makes her own pods often and now has three of the pots to use in her urban apartment because she loves to cook and use fresh vegetables and herbs. You can extend the light and even grow tomatoes, smaller patio versions work best.
