While the Nikon D5000 DSLR camera is completely compatible with the Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens, it is not compatible with AF-P type lenses like the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens. Some newer cameras in the Nikon D5000 line-up, like the Nikon D5500 and the Nikon D5600 are compatible with both of these lenses, but may need a firmware update to use AF-P type lens.
