In order to log into Sling, you will require internet access. Even though you can have a free Sling account, you still need to log in for any functions to work.

The internet connection provides the channel info and program details. So, I would say, yes. Also, it needs the internet to update and register the unit to your account. ( Otherwise a standard TV is all you need)

Yes, you need wifi or you can connect directly to your router via Ethernet.

Yes, it does internet connection in order for you to be able to set it up. It doesn't support bluetooth for casting between devices, it uses your home Wifi.
