Carol, never too old to learn. I purchased this phone for my 73 year old husband and he uses it like you, for emergency use as we too have a landline. The charge level indicator is in the upper right hand corner. On this phone in the upper right corner will be the time then to left of that is the charge level then the coverage i.e. 4 G Lite and last the signal strength.. Our only gripe is all this information is in white against a light blue background and in a well lit area or outside would make it difficult to see. If you go to a room where there is no direct light you will see this information. There are only two TracFone flip phones Verizon cellular will support after December 31 of this year, this one and another one and this appeared based on others reviews to be best. Hope this has helped you out.
