There's absolutely no reason you couldn't use any USB charger for this, including a lighter socket USB charger (I assume that's what "auto charger" means). It needs 500mA, which any port should be able to provide (except very low quality <$5 ones, perhaps, regardless what they're rated).

Maybe because most plug in chargers come with a 2.1 amp (or higher) output port? But most also come with a regular old 1.2 amp output as well. My only guess is that they'd rather you use the lower output for whatever reason? Not positive obviously.
