“My Alienware 17R4 and comes with 1 Thunderbolt 3 port and also 1 Type-C port. I see it states should be connected to an Type-C port, but I would like to know if I can plug it into the Thunderbolt port or if it may damage it. If so, would it be faster?”

I don't believe it will damage the laptop or the docking station, however I think that only one of the ports will recognize the Aluratek Docking Station. My Lenovo T480 is the same way.

Thunderbolt 3 can be used with usb type c devices, but you cannot daisy-chain TB3 devices to the usb device.
