• You can used this for yourself but the light is primarily made for kids. This is why it asks to approve parental settings during set-up.

• Yes, it is for kids. It restricts things like purchases, explicit content, etc. For example, if you ask Alexa to read a story, it opens kids audible.

• Yes, the Kid's Edition has restrictions on it. That's the whole point... You may just want a regular Echo Dot.
