how does it control basic light switches? null

You need to have an Alexa compatible device through either a smart light switch, or a smart plug such as WeMo.

We are using it in conjunction with a VIVINT home security system but as near as I can tell it should integrate with any Z-Wave compatible system. Using the switch module we can use it to control lights, locks, and even garage door. Pretty amazing device actually. It's where laptops should be heading.
