Yes the echo can be used in a nursing facility as long as there is a place to plug it in.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hey Jugie - from what I know yes, as long as her room has access to the wifi. She will want to download the Alexa app to her phone though to have it connected to her Amazon app, or yours. there are several games like trivia that she can use on it as well. I think it would be a great purchase honestly.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am sorry dear but my best guess not knowing the layout of the facility is that it's doubtful they have wifi for the patients. Nursing homes are infamous for wanting to keep the noise from patients on the down low. A bit of good news is now many cell phones have their own wifi networks through various services like LTE lite which has come down in price to a very affordable level. Not long ago you were on a metered connection so you wouldn't go over your budgeted 1gig. Now many LTE wifi networks are limitless and affordable. I would ask and double check that this type of network would be compatible with the marvelous thoughtful gift you got you Mum good luck
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We bought this for my son as a present, but we do have one of our own. I don't have a smart-phone, so our other son had to set it up for us. (You do have to have a smart phone for the initial set-up.) It's connected to our home's WiFi, so it's just a guess that it will work for you with any access. I would suggest that you ask on the Amazon site for any Echo specifications. Sorry I couldn't give you a more thorough explanation.
