It does not make phone calls or send out text messages. Maybe they will add that soon, they are always doing updates.

No, that is no possible with Echo.

Yes you can. I was told in the skills App there is "buddy call" you can set it up to call whoever you want and it will tell them to check on you immediately. You can't actually talk to them but they get the message.thats why I got a remote so that I can call from my bed if needed.

It does not connect to your phone and you cannot program her to dial a phone number, so I am pretty sure it will not be able to dial 911 in case of an emergency.

Echo does not work as a cell phone and can NOT dial 911.
