• Absolutly. I also use it to read iBooks to me. I also use it as a speaker phone for my iPhone and to play my phones music.

• Yes, you can play podcasts from the echo dot. Use the app to set Alexa skills first. The rest is quite easy. Alexa can help guide you, too. I believe you can play audio from your phone to the echo using the app. Seems like that was one of the first things we tried. Very easy to do.
