Yes you can also drop off messages through it or call it to speak to your aunt if needed

This would work just fine, and you'd even be able to take advantage of features like Drop-In to use it like an intercom to talk to your aunt while you're away. I still receive updates for the weather there daily to my devices in TN as they are all linked. I can also check in on the device on my phone. I hope this information is helpful.
