Does this device do more than play music on command? null

Yes, it is able to do more than just play music. It can play games, tell you the weather, remind you to do something, put things on your calendar, tell you the new news, jokes, and much more. I believe Alexa uses Bing as a search engine. She is also able to translate and 36 different languages. She has what she calls skills and you need to enable them in order for you to do many of the functions. Oh, and she also will give you recipes.

The Echo can answer lots of questions like: 1. the score of your favorite sporting event, even while it is taking place 2. tell you the weather in your hometown as well as any other location in the US 3. answer basic questions about many things (when my grandson asked about The Hulk, Alexa was able to tell him the entire back story) 4. tune in many radio stations 5. send a text this list just scratches the surface.

You can ask it the time, the weather, sports scores, to tell you a joke, set timers (good for cooking :), set it up to work with Uber service, to order items from Amazon (though I disabled this feature myself (to save from mistakes that someone might order something that I don't want), check your calendar for events, set daily alarms, read audio books, search for restaurants nearby, read the news, pay bills online, ask KidsMD about issues with your kids and get free advise and a whole lot more. Check online for more in-depth features and functions, but these are some of the ones I personally am aware of.

Yeah, it can tell you about the weather, pull up the latest news from various sources (that you select), turn on and off the lights in your house and connect with many smart home devices (locks, garage door openers, and anything you can get to with IFTTT). It can play audio books, read your Kindle books, buy things from Amazon, etc. It can tell you what's on your calendar, it can set reminders, timers, shopping lists, etc. It's pretty useful all in all.

Yes. The echo can provide news, weather traffic info and more. When used in conjunction with a hub it can control tv, stereo, lights etc. It is extremely versatile
