My 55 yr old eyes were beginning to think we should try a paperwhite, but I read a lot. A whole lot since I broke my back. However, i have been using my kindle fire since the beginning to read and it's been awesome, and still is. And you can't look at color magazines or picture books, or listen to a book while reading it unles you're doing your reading on a fire, so think about all that you can't do on a plain reader. I just turn the screen brightness down when I read, and it's perfect. So I won't be wasting money on the very limited paperwhite or voyager either, after all, lol . And if you turn off your wifi by putting the fire on airplane mode, you'll extend your battery life significantly. And the fire has all the features like notes, instant lookups in dictionary and Wikipedia, prime, unlimited (which more than pays for itself every month),goodreads, that the readers have. So, enjoy your new FireHD ;-)

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's wonderful at downloading and reading books! . It's nice to have the web & camera but my main use is as a reader.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will work as a reader just like any tablet would. If you read a lot, you would like the dedicated kindle readers better. They are less tiring for your eyes. I use mine for study so I prefer the full tablet where I can highlight and take notes easier.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Amazon Fire is great as an e-reader and downloads rather quickly. It is an evolution of Amazon's original Kindle e-reader which many say revolutionized e-readers.
